Re: Baltimore/DC Area Meetup 2012
Costuming is recommended, certainly not required, and people not costumed will certainly not be the only ones there that aren't dressed up.
De, I've been working on the assumption that those who can are going to try for the steampunk theme as much as we can.
On that note, if anyone has extra things they can bring to help outfit the rest of us, that would be muchly appreciated.

Avast! Why must this always be when I'm at school, a few hundred miles away? :smallmad:
(I just saw this thread)

I'm not sure if we're going to rent the large van again this year or not. We'll investigate this more when the meetup is closer.
EDIT: As far as nearby places to stay, there's a post upthread that has some links to recommendations, but it might be best to see where others are staying in order to coordinate travel to and fro.
As a side note, there's a new shuttle route from the Shady Grove Metro Station and BWI, that goes along the new ICC. If I remember correctly, it's only around $5-10. I think there are other routes too. Hope that helps a bit with transportation.

Re: Baltimore/DC Area Meetup 2012
UPDATE:
We just got back from speaking to a few of the hotels in the area and found one that is willing to let us use their breakfast buffet room free of charge so long as we don't leave a huge mess for the breakfast crew. Other places wanted to charge upwards of $200 for four hours and wanted us out by 11PM. It's a really great space with lots of tables for gaming, much more room than in our little house. So the plan is to game there at least Saturday night, probably from say, 7 until people go to bed. They want us out by 5AM, but historically that won't really be an issue. If enough people are around Friday night, we may take them up on the offer then too.
So, if you're looking to book a room still, please consider booking at the LaQuinta Inn. The rates are reasonable and it's super easy to get from there to our place and back. I'm not sure it would be cool for us to use the room if none of us are staying there, though. Side benefit, if you're drinking, you have an easy hallway commute to your room!

Sweet. I still need to nail down tyckspoon into a definite answer on his attendance. But I am definitely looking forward to this.

Still planning to go. Was just thinking I should talk to you about length of stay/roomshare/etc so I know what to plan for.

Re: Baltimore/DC Area Meetup 2012
Still trying to coordinate with people as to exactly what nights I'll be there, but I'll try to keep these arrangements in mind. Right now the options are to head to the airport Thursday after work (possibly taking a couple hours off in the afternoon, but I need to be there that morning) or early enough on Friday that Phil and I can hang out with peoples that evening.

Re: Baltimore/DC Area Meetup 2012
Btw, I have interest in running the Dresden RPG while in town.

AFAIK, it's not final, but he's on the "very probably" list as of now.

I'M GONNA BE A WIZARD!
I really like the way magic is explained in the Dresden verse. And I am so in love with these books right now. So...yes. This. Gryf even has a wand I may have to purloin. Though if I can find my old one from MagicQuest... :smallconfused:

That's excellent news! The last I remember hearing was this...

Re: Baltimore/DC Area Meetup 2012
I'm familiarizing myself with the rules currently. I'd be using the setting they provide, which is Baltimore! And probably using the sample characters they provide, depending on time.

Re: Baltimore/DC Area Meetup 2012
1. Dresden sounds awesome!
2. I just learned that Heavy Seas craft brewery is locatyed in Baltimore. THIS MUST BE VISITED!!
3. Steampunk ren-faire is still hopefully happening.
4. Depending on children in tow, Faerie and I may be staying at the La Quinta. If we are coming without children.... maybe futon space? The details are still being discussed...
5. Zeb, I am still trying to research our 'project'... (and another hippie belated burfday!)

I didn't want to say anything until I was certain, which I still am not. So that's still the official word. But now there's a much better chance that it won't be the final word.

From what I've heard, using the sample characters might be wise. When somebody here tried to start up a Dresden RPG group a few weeks ago, he allocated the entire first session to character creation. I don't know whether that was really necessary in the end, but that was the GM's plan going in.

That's what the rules suggest. Character creation is a collaborative effort. If I did allow character creation, it would probably be in a forum thread, before the actual meetup.

I intend to come, and I hope Susan will be able to join me.

2. It is, and very close to us. Sadly, they only do tours in the middle of the afternoon on Saturdays, right in the middle of RenFest time.
4. Absolutely. We already had that in the 'floor plan'. :smallcool:
5. I am too, actually. We should chat. (thanks!)

Awesome! Same plan as last year or are you guys going to try to make the RenFest with us this year too?

I'm okay with not doing a tour... but we NEED to get some of this beer! I have no local access!! :smallfrown:
I will see about calling you soon... hopefully later this week.

I'll talk with Susan, but it's most likely same plan as last year. Susan doesn't like crowds much.

I was going to recommend either this, or you create characters for us.

Alrighty then. Done and done. Not unexpectedly, I'm practically tripping over the stuff. I'd like to take you to my beer place if you're up here early enough.

I think I should take Hippie and Zeb to Frisco's.

Oh, do I. It's more like a warehouse, actually. It's a full blown liquor store but about a fourth of the store is just beer, everything from B/M/C to Rogue/Stone/Lagunitas to Ommegang and Duvel. Also, this is the place where I'm most likely to find any special releases or seasonals that anyone puts out.
