Also, I assume you mean Haban Berry? With a Yache Berry, Kingdra should be able to outspeed any unboosted variant of Garchomp and 1HKO with Outrage (assuming rain). Same for Salamence at +1 or lower speed. Also, if he can get one from the Dream World, he could just give his Kingdra a Haban berry to match, especially if someone else on his team is using leftovers.
I mean Yache Berry. If Salamence dances while Vaporeon sets up the rain and switches out, it wins (dance twice, sweep). If Vaporeon tries to use rain and then Ice Beam, Salamence wins (dance twice, sweep). If it's a MoxieMence in this case, it only gets harder to beat as time goes on. Only if Vaporeon uses Ice Beam twice does it stand a chance, and mostly if it invested heavily in Defense.

Damage for Outrage after one dance against Vaporeon is 86.2% - 101.3%, apparently. So, only a slim chance of being completely screwed over.
Do you have any suggestions for how to counter that (that being Dancing Salamence, in this case)?

I still wouldn't risk switching to Kingdra right away, though.

Ferrothorn. It likes the rain (since it weakens Fire) and lures in a fire attack rather than repeated Outrages, meaning that you can switch in Kingdra and sweep... if you're in the rain and it hasn't danced twice, of course (though you could try a Haban Berry on Kingdra to offset the first Dragon hit).
The drawback is, of course, that you would need to replace Toxicroak as well. Toxicroak can take the hit, but only rarely... you'll need to work on getting a very high-IV Toxicroak and run a bulky set to stand a chance against a +0 Outrage. Even pouring everything into defense, you'll relatively rarely survive a +1 Outrage.

...and I haven't really been bothering with iv's much as I am trying to learn the ropes of how things work these days.

Re: Pokémon Thread XIII: Our Ponies are ON FIRE!
So here are my friend codes to put in the OP of this thread.
Black 2: 4256-1366-7556
Black: 3955-3645-3467
I have SS and Pearl too, but I'll probably be starting new games in both those soon, so I'll add those later. *nodnod*

Hehe, I did the same thing except with Black having barely any pokemon. Of course, i decided to make a living dex part way into Black. :smalltongue:
Swanna sounds good, though. I'll be doing the trade from my Black 2 game. I'll be available for trade in an hour and forty minutes or so from the time of this post if you'll be around at that time. Otherwise I can probably trade anytime tonight that you can get on.

Re: Pokémon Thread XIII: Our Ponies are ON FIRE!
What if Vaporeon spams Scald and goes for a burn? Gives you a greater than 30% chance to cripple, rather than the greater than 10% chance you face using Ice Beam.
Does the Salamence in the Battle Subway have Dragon Dance + Yache Berry?

Ice Beam goes for the kill. Scald is good, but relying on a chance effect against the computer when it's going into full hax-mode (as it likely will be when it whips out a Salamence)? Not safe.

Battle Subway teams are dynamically generated, AFAIK.

Nah. Each trainer has a list of pokemon that they can use. Of course, the number of possible pokemon each trainer can have exceeds 90 in some cases, so you can't guess what pokemon they have before they send them out.
I suspect that there's a dancing salamence somewhere, but I don't care enough to slog through dozens of trainers to find out.

Re: Pokémon Thread XIII: Our Ponies are ON FIRE!
Okie dokie, Gulghar! Have you gotten my friend code?
Also, has anyone here successfully completed the Black Tower? If so, what did you use for a party? Currently, I'm training my pokes to level 80 before attempting.
-
Re: Pokémon Thread XIII: Our Ponies are ON FIRE!
Black Tower has Pokémon that vary from level 50s to 60s. If you pump up your levels that high, you could conceivably go in there with a Metang, a Farfetch'd, and an Unown and win.
-
Re: Pokémon Thread XIII: Our Ponies are ON FIRE!
Except from looking over the bosses' Pokemon, there's a lot of scary looking legendaries 0-0

Wait, really? Damn. I was hoping it would be like the battle tower in Emerald and match your highest level pokemon.

Hey, if you play things right, even a Magicarp can sweep a team of legendaries.

Re: Pokémon Thread XIII: Our Ponies are ON FIRE!
:smallconfused: Is there a backstory behind the whole Metang joke, or is it just "Metang is not Metagross, let's laugh at it?"

It was bumped up to RU at one point because of usage statistics, despite being a pretty terrible pokemon, even in NU.

But doesn't the final battle boss of the tower have level 80 Pokemon himself?
I'm going to find this more of a challenge than the Elite Four, I'm sure. I literally beat the Elite Four using only my Genesect.
...
It was glorious.

Indeed I do. I'm going to get on right now, so whenever you're ready I'm waiting for you.

Re: Pokémon Thread XIII: Our Ponies are ON FIRE!
Gulghar, is everything good connection wise on your end?
It gets to the part where it says you want to join me, then it stops...
Perhaps you should try going to the screen and select trade?

I'm pretty sure my connection is fine, but something is definitely not working right. I'll try initiating the trade.

Wait, I'm confused. How was the magikarp faster than the enemy team? Did I miss something he set up? :smallconfused:

When I played Platinum, Yanmega was quite the beast.
He is good, yes?

If you don't have to worry about stealth rock, yes.

Mmm...yeah. Stealth Rocks =c
Anyways, I'm doing the Black Tower right now and I've gotta say it's quite interesting.

You'll want to have a Pokemon that already knows Flash though. There's areas that you'll need it. Also, the point is to find the Gate Trainer out of all the other Trainers. She'll open up the gate to the Boss of the area. Also, there's one doctor in every area. They can only be used once, and you can't even access your items, so use that one time wisely.
-
Re: Pokémon Thread XIII: Our Ponies are ON FIRE!
Can you use TMs while in Black Tower?

If Flash is needed, what i tend to do is swap it and thunderbolt out on my Magnezone.

By this point, my team is in the 70's. I've been just running through with a Sawsbuck and doing fine.

What Area are you in by now? I'm in Area 6...
In the last area my Powerhouse Genesect was crippled severely after being paralyzed. This was after I used my doctor...
