Re: Pokémon Thread XIII: Our Ponies are ON FIRE!
I finally got to a gamestop to get my Keldeo, and I learned that they will be hosting a Pokemon tournament this Sunday for BW2's release.
I don't have the full rules yet, those will be emailed after the organizer gets off work, but iirc it's going to be 3v3 single battles.
Also, my Keldo is Timid with a 31 SpA IV :smallcool:

Re: Pokémon Thread XIII: Our Ponies are ON FIRE!
Is this going to be all Gamestops? :smallconfused:
I may want to try this... :smalltongue:

Re: Pokémon Thread XIII: Our Ponies are ON FIRE!
One of the employees is organizing it and they are hosting it, but I think it's just that one store.

Re: Pokémon Thread XIII: Our Ponies are ON FIRE!
Out of curiosity, what is the bonus for preordering B&W2? Gamestop has 'BONUS INCLUDED' displayed beneath them, but I can't find any details.
-
Re: Pokémon Thread XIII: Our Ponies are ON FIRE!
I don't think there was a pre-order bonus other than having it the day it comes out.

The site says otherwise.
It's awfully vague, however.

Re: Pokémon Thread XIII: Our Ponies are ON FIRE!
Well I will have to ask tomorrow when I go to pick mine up.
In any case, back on thursday I got my hands on the rules, and I've been testing and breeding a team since.
Rules:
-No ubers or legendaries
-3v3 single battles
So, the team I decided to take is:
Drizzle Politoed [Leftovers] (Scald/Toxic/Protect/Focus Blast)
Swift Swim Kabutops [Choice Band] (Rock Slide/Waterfall/X-Scissor/Aerial Ace)
Multiscale Dragonite [Leftovers] (Hurricane/Thunder/Dragon Tail/Roost)
The Politoed and Dragonite are both built tank.
Also, you guys were right. IV breeding is a big pain in the butt. :smallannoyed::smallsigh:

Be sure to get something with Flame Body or Magma Armor if you don't have one already. It makes it much easier (still a pain in the butt, but eh).

Oh, I've had a volcarona pretty much permanently in my party since I started working on my pokedex.
Still a pain in the butt, yes, but on the plus side, now that the team is assembled, I literally have nothing to do except battle with other people. (Finished living dex + multiple team combinations)

Re: Pokémon Thread XIII: Our Ponies are ON FIRE!
I haven't grabbed a new game for Pokemon since Silver/Gold came out for the GBC. I'm looking to get back into it, should I start with Black/White or try the Pearl first?
I really don't know where to start.
-
Re: Pokémon Thread XIII: Our Ponies are ON FIRE!
Well, seeing as most of the DS games are the same price anyway, you should probably just get Black or White 2, which come out tomorrow.

Re: Pokémon Thread XIII: Our Ponies are ON FIRE!
You have me there. Thanks!

What do you mean? IV breeding is the most fun part of the game! :smallwink: Especially when you are trying to breed for egg moves.
Good luck! May none of your Focus Blasts miss enemy Tyranitars and Ferrothorns .

Re: Pokémon Thread XIII: Our Ponies are ON FIRE!
And I have gotten a DW Charmander (Japanese) and a DW Leafeon (Korean). My awesome trade roster keeps growing. ^_^

Oh god, I can only imagine if I was trying to breed for egg moves. Thankfully my team had only moves that could be gotten without breeding. I think the Politoed and Kabutops actually had all-TM moves XD
And thanks! Ferrothorn is really the only thing I'm worrying about, since the other pokemon that would give me trouble that I can think of are banned in this tournament (the Latis).

Re: Pokémon Thread XIII: Our Ponies are ON FIRE!
I sometimes feel that when people ban ubers, they should actually ban the uber tier from Smogon.
-
Re: Pokémon Thread XIII: Our Ponies are ON FIRE!
I think that IS what they do. Unless Ubers refers to something in addition to smogon's uber tier

I was always under the impression it meant things like the Pseudo-Legendaries.
Edit: And looking at it, only 3 Pokemon in Smogon's Uber Tier aren't Legendaries, so why say "No Ubers or Legendaries"?
-
Re: Pokémon Thread XIII: Our Ponies are ON FIRE!
Of those three, one of them is BLAZIKEN.
That makes me so sad.
-
Re: Pokémon Thread XIII: Our Ponies are ON FIRE!
They did ban the uber tier from Smogon. They just also banned all non-uber legendaries, for some reason.

The assumption is probably that the tournament is only legit pokes (unlikely though that is in practice), and banning legends means that people who don't have games from several generations and unlimited soft-reset time aren't blocked from using those very-good-even-if-they're-not-OP pokes.

Re: Pokémon Thread XIII: Our Ponies are ON FIRE!
Anyone else think Primeape is a good Pokemon for conpetitive play?

Well, depending how much weight you put in Smogon, Primeape is in the Rarely Used Tier.
Here's their review on him:
Quote:
If one could call RBY the Psychic generation, then it's certain that BW is the Fighting generation. While Primeape has to compete with a plethora of other Fighting-types for a team spot, it has the right tools to help it stand out. Not only is Primeape the fastest Fighting-type in RU, it also has the rare Vital Spirit ability. This allows it to switch into the Sleep Powder users that dominate RU, namely Tangrowth and Lilligant, and makes it the best switch-in to Smeargle as well. Furthermore, Primeape has a unique support move in Encore, along with an extremely powerful attack in Close Combat.
Unfortunately, it's not all sunshine and roses for our anger management case. Primeape has serious issues with Ghost-types as it lacks a reliable coverage move against them, and is terrified of being burned by Will-O-Wisp. This weakness is compounded by Primeape's hatred of any kind of status, as well as its frail defenses. Primeape users should fear not, however, as Primeape has carved itself a niche in RU as a strong and speedy scout.

Re: Pokémon Thread XIII: Our Ponies are ON FIRE!
Huh, I used Primeape in my Uber team as a Darkrai counter and that worked out for me just fine.

I wonder how many pokemon might be over or under tiered just from usage. Just because there are other pokemon that might be .01% more effective in a certain job than x pokemon doesn't make x pokemon a bad pokemon...
The tier names are all sorta offensive, too. Overused, rarely used, never used... They need a letter system. S, A, B, C, D, F, U. Super, Amazing, Borderline, Common, Dreary, Failure, Unevolved.

I was just about to say people liked using him when they had problems with Darkrai.
Where are you guys getting your rules for Nuzlockes? Once I get my **** in one sock, I'ma try one.

What do you mean? Point A seems to me to directly contradict Point B. The tiers are named as usage levels because they are based in part on how much a given pokemon is used.

Re: Pokémon Thread XIII: Our Ponies are ON FIRE!
*shrugs* I'm just quoting Smogon and I don't competitive battle myself. But it did help me breed a good Cleffa for me and my girl.

I'm saying there seem to be a lot of Pokemon that could be useful, and that are compatable to other pokemon in terms of abilities, but because it's based primarally on chartable usage, those other pokemon get droped into the lower reaches. I think they should be graded based on the sum total of their abilities, and ranked from there.

Re: Pokémon Thread XIII: Our Ponies are ON FIRE!
First Pokemon mentioned gets a team built around them and a video by the end of the day tomorrow.
