A more sane version of Trixie's; 2 votes to Tarnish notte the majesty of my TOWER of HATS, and 1 to The Poor and Irish.
I have a somewhat technical question.
So, I finally decided that it was time to get the first Mass Effect. So, I did. Spent twenty bucks, downloaded it, let it go overnight. Next day, I try to play it, and I get a windows error message almost instantly, before I go to a black screen or anything, that says that it's encountered an error. I uninstalled it, redownloaded it, and it did the same thing.
When I run the launcher as an admin (online help said that that might help), it opens up the start screen, the one with the play, readme, website etc. buttons, but when I hit play, it gives me the same exact error message and dies.
I imagine that if my computer can run skyrim just fine, I doubt that it's a capability issue. Likewise, TF2 runs normally, so I know that my antivirus isn't messing it up, and it's not steam itself.
Can anyone help out?
All my three votes on Hat Fortress 2: Snappy title pendin' .
BTW, until the trade thread is posted, is anyone here interested in a Dota 2 invite ? Willing to trade it for Alpha Centauri from GOG or other offers.

Um... 5JKGB-V3B45-L8RC4
I found something I think is Steam code for some DLC, probably for RIFT, but whatever it is, I don't have that game. So, try if you want, maybe you'll be lucky?

Also, this card is a little bit weak. Like, 5 years behind rest of the parts weak, theoretically should run ME1, though..
Oh, make sure you go online and download the patches. This is critical for ME both 1 and 2. If you have not, that can fix the issue.
also note I did not say he can run it at max settings or not (mainly because its been forever since I played with ME1 settings), but rather he should be able to play it.
Here is one quick google search
Its 70 MB big just in case you don't notice.
Continuing the conversation in a spoiler so not everyone has to read it :)

Where do you get that impression? Cause I am confused as to your stance. As you said
Which implies you even thought it either meets min requirements or surpasses them.
Also judging by these comments (and personal experience)
This link you can compare the specs of the two cards
[URL="http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/AMD-ATI-Chips-Comparison-Table/131"[/URL]
If you scroll all the way down you will see a disclaimer that ATI measured clock speed differently on the 2400 and the 2600 cards but NOT the card in question (3450).
Even if you compare the 1800X (Thats the recomended card for ME1) to the 3450 cards on the table listed above you can see that there are a significant differences between the two. More so if you consider that the 3450 was the first card for the ATI mobile hardware that uses PCI Express, which is a big change.
Also one final note, Mass Effect 1 came out back in 07 and did not demand top of the line hardware back in 07.
With all that being said, I still have not said one can play ME1 at max settings with that card, but rather one should still be able to play it well with a 3450
I'm running a 4770 and can handily max out ME1 and 2, so a 3450 isn't going to struggle too hard when it has 8gb of ram to help it along too.
Most of the hard load goes to the CPU anyway, so graphics cards are getting less important these days.
Anyway, with the ME1 problem. It's a notoriously buggy port. I'd advise patching it, finding unofficial community patches, and possibly digging into the config file (like I had to). Google is always your friend with these problems.
Well whoever said zombies called it, and it looks like it is tomorrow. Sounds like fun.
While I am glad that my guess that Merasmus would send zombie waves upon us was correct, I am more stoked at Unusuals in a Bottle (potions).
I really hope that those are permanent like strange parts, otherwise I would be a very sad panda.
No more fighting for gifts is awesome. Rest I'll wait and see.
