And yet... I feel like a jerk for even thinking such thoughts. They're mean.
... and even worse, they're hypocritical. I was checking the playground enough that I ran out of data on my phone for a few days, hoping that it might be back up soon. Not only was I without my pbp games... but I sincerely found myself missing you guys, wondering what insanity was being hatched, or what bizarrely collegic conversations were being born, and the other silly shenanigans you all get into.
It probably doesn't help that -this- is the first place I post in once the playground was reopened.
... this is the way evil truly works: getting you to -want- to give in, and making you -not- want to get out, despite leaving you the freedom to resist and leave at will.
... I'd be lying if I didn't respect it at least for it's effectiveness.
In short... I'm not sure where I stand with the show, to be honest. With most content from this point on being entirely fanbased, I feel like I know pretty much all I need to about My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, to able to have an unignorant thought point on it. I'm not even interested in the 3rd Season, since it seems like a safe bet that the overall formula of the show (being the adventures of 6 best friends and an interesting cast of characters living their lives and improving their relations with eachother) probably won't get shaken up by the Crystal Empire or what might come after it.
But I do think ya'll are pretty cool dudes... and it does bring a smile to my face to be able to see what you're all up to.
I wasn't sure if I'd stick along for the ride once I finished watching what's currently available... but I think I might now. If no one minds, anyway.
... oh **** all kinds of duck, I'm actually asking if I can stay. Am I in the transparent closet and having not even realised it?! ARE YOU STORING HEARTH'S WARMING EVE PRESENTS IN HERE!?!

This is awesome. Everything is better if narrated by Batman, and the VA for Rarity in the first scene had me in hysterics already.

Pretty much this.
Oh, and I think this was linked a while ago but for anypony who hasn't seen it, here's a similar panel with many of the same people doing Star Wars from Emerald City Comicon.

Oh, I watched that during the forum downtime! Yes it was awesome! My personal favourite part was Wesker as Snips. The Jedi narrator (forgot the character's name) was good too, and of course, The Great and Powerful Bender.
Why were they all at Canterlot Gardens though? Are they all bronies? :D

Random thought: I've seen a comparison several times in fics of salt to alcohol for ponies. (See also, Salt Lick.)
So does that make the ocean an entire sea of watered down beer?

I see what you mean there; though I wasn't trying to seperarte ya'll from the playground or anything. At least not intentionally, and certainly not maliciously. All of my groups sorta live in vacuums from eachother, with different mindsets and focuses based on which group is being interracted with and the interests of said groups. Things get interesting/fun/scary when people in some groups end up being in parts of other groups.
This isn't too odd, is it? It's sorta like this in real life, too: I've got nuclear family, extended family, church friends, old school friends, new schol friends, coworkers, gym members, and so on, rather than just one big list of people. And each group gets treated differently, depending on my placement in said group, as well as the atmosphere of everyone.

I've been offensive a lot before... I actually wanted to address such things that occured before the playground got closed, but after it, and with it being so long, it'd have been odd to try to dredge up such oldities... so I just wanted to try to do better from here on... and if I promptly fail, then I should be told so, so I can try to improve...
Still, thank you.

How do people stay perfectly in character when crossing roles and voices like that? Did they record this live, or was it just something special they decided to cook up and present there?

Well, we missed you too. But you don't need to be respectful in that way because you're already here and part of the discussion and community. Whatever "community" means in this wacky new-age context.
Unless I'm mistaken, it's Cloudflare (Maximus' typo, not yours) and they've been running it for a little while, specifically since the June 27th update saying that they were switching to a content delivery network, which is what Cloudflare is.

I find people being overly concerned about being respectful is something of a major problem in and of itself. Good discussion doesn't happen if your afraid to tap the occaisonal fetlock or knock horns.

fetlock n. (\ˈfet-ˌläk\)
1) a: a projection bearing a tuft of hair on the back of the leg above the hoof of a horse or similar animal
b: the tuft of hair itself
2) the joint of the limb at the fetlock
So basically, the top of the hoof and/or the hair that grows there.

Short answer: People are silly.
Long answer: Someone decided it would be funny to pretend to believe Celestia was prone to internet-troll behavior, and it spread. Someone else decided it would be funny to pretend to believe Celestia was prone to... unwelcome advances, let's say, and it spread.
The "Iron Hoof" mentioned in the intro-spoiler in the first post is a related idea. I'm not actually sure why it's still there, I don't think it's come up in the last couple score of threads. (The premise thereof, as I understand it, is that Celestia rules with an iron hoof and what we see in the show is either propaganda or ponies desperately trying not to get on her bad side.)

Re: My Little Pony LIV:E Long and Pony!
There are a couple points that have lent it life. Some of these may seem sort of strawmanny, and I apologize if I misrepresent someponies views.
1. There are three types of pony. They all live in a variety of cities and towns, but of the two we have seen devoted to one type (Cloudsdale and Canterlot), the second of them also happens to be the capital. If the Princesses (who are called unicorns in the show) are ruling all three types, why is their capital the base of unicorn power?
2. The whole "I don't turn ponies into stone" concept was construed by some watchers as Celestia turning ponies into stone (because Discord is considered by some not to be a pony, and the comment thus not self referential).
3. She sent her sister to the moon for 1,000 years for not lowering the moon. Some watchers don't believe that the planet would become lifeless without the sun, and so believe that it was a drastic and rather heartless overreaction.
4. Celestia always plays the part of the monarch, never revealing her own emotions or beliefs but judging and controlling other ponies. While this can be a very dangerous trait, it can also be beneficial by separating personal from professional priorities.

Canterlot has Earth ponies in addition to unicorns, maybe not as evenly mixed as Ponyville but definitely there. I think the only Pegasi we've seen outside of the Guard or Wonderbolts is Wildfire... but they DO have their own exclusive town.

I don't think the ponythread argument over the climate was ever to be confused with eternal night being a good thing, just that the evil would be more direct tryanny then just slowly starving everypony to death. Its noted by Word of Faust that simply not lowering the moon would not have been the only thing NMM would have inflicted.
Also people fondly imagine that Luna was somehow awake the whole time with nothing to do or whatever thus making it some "horrible thing" or whatever... despite being clearly merged with the moon and Word of Faust noting Luna was basically asleep the whole time.

Re: My Little Pony LIV:E Long and Pony!
Since we have a Celestia discussion going on what's everybody's headcannon on her degree of governmental power?
On one end of the spectrum she and Luna are absolute rulers whose word is law and decrees absolute. At the other end their titles are mostly ceremonial and the bulk of actual government is done by mortal ponies. Most of Celestia's influence comes from being so beloved by the common pony that being seen disrespecting her or flagrantly ignoring her advice would be tantamount to political suicide.
Personally I think they have something like a constitutional monarchy with division of powers and checks and balances. With Celestia and Luna acting as the Executive branch while an assembly of mortal ponies is the Legislative branch.
If you're wondering I have asked this question before. But it was what, 20 threads ago? So I think another go is fair.

Until there's support otherwise a principality under an absolute monarch. Presumably Luna holding similar authority.
We also know she is not purely ceremonial since we've heard of her ordering the guards and she evidently also went to.... Phillydelphia IIRC... to deal with their Parasprite crisis.
