Maybe this isn't killing as we usually know it. :smallconfused:

I suspect there's at least a glimmer of truth in all of these statements.

No, not killing as we know it. :smalleek:
COYOTE! STOP BEING SO CREEPY!!
-
Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 5: Bismuth as Usual
It's Coyote though. The creepiness is half the fun!

Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 5: Bismuth as Usual
Coyote, stahp. You're being scarier than usual.

Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 5: Bismuth as Usual
Does anyone else think that Tom kinda goes overboard with the unusual panel layouts? My eyes kinda glaze over whenever I see one of these pages, and we've had like 7 in a row.
Is it just me? If it's just me I'll shut up.
-
Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 5: Bismuth as Usual
No, I can see where it could get tiresome. I'm not overly excited about the ether-pages either, so hopefully this scene will be finishing up soon. They're nice once in a while, but I do think the non-traditional layouts can get hard to read after too many in a row.
-
Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 5: Bismuth as Usual
They can be visually overwhelming/fatiguing.
I think that's intentional, though, so that people notice more details when they go back and re-read a single comic on its own than when they initially read through even a single chapter at a time.

I can see why, but it doesn't really bug me because it lends itself for the scene in the comic. I just spend a lot of time on each page to make sure I know where things are going. It is confusing all at once, and I doubt that we will have many ether trips right after this in order to give us a breather, but I still appreciate them.

Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 5: Bismuth as Usual
I usually sort of skip the art in comics as a whole so it doesn't bother me. Well skip is a bit much. Gloss over?

Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 5: Bismuth as Usual
Say what? Say WHAT? Fairies are MADE to become human???
This is confusing...

Only the Empty ones. This was very early in the comic, but it's a cool bit of worldbuilding.
-
Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 5: Bismuth as Usual
Hmmm... it looks like the hollow fairy bodies are connected to their totems via some sort of astral cord.
Pretty cool.

Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 5: Bismuth as Usual
I just wanted to say that I recently discovered this webcomic and it blew my mind. I've never seen anything like it, the quality is simply amazing.
I'm still catching up, so I'm avoiding reading the thread as I fear spoilers, but I plan to buy all the printed books as soon as I can.

I would have just read it as their spirits are not as attached to their bodies in the same way as say a humans or an animals are. They're more.... Ethereal or something along those lines since they can flit between the different worlds. Having to destroy their bodies is just to stop them from annoying Ysen on a whim, it would also explain why they care so little about their bodies.
Edit: Ah well sod it then.

Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 5: Bismuth as Usual
Ah, good, Coyote's going to take care of it, nothing to worry about.
(Unless food is being delivered to the Forest from the outside, or all the predator animals are vegan or eat only unintelligent fish and insects, there must be a lot of consumption of intelligent animals there. I would imagine everyone, including Annie, regards this as natural. Can't say I exactly like the idea...)

I think we met a boy who used to be a fish in the Court.

Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 5: Bismuth as Usual
But is it that guy, or THAT guy?

True enough. Which is why I said unintelligent fish. Of course I don't know if there are any such...

Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 5: Bismuth as Usual
I think "this guy" or "that guy" is the most common annotation in this comic (and most others) and I never know who it is. Even though I have been reading it for years, I don't remember. I guess that's why I appreciate El Goonish Shive's annotation so much.

You don't know who it is? It's obviously Eglamore, duh.
(If you don't know it in this case, it's Smitty, the boyfriend of Parley who is the girl with the teleport powers.)

I prefer Coyote's method of address: Mighty Eyebrows Boy.

I highly suspect this person used to be a Forest denizen.

Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 5: Bismuth as Usual
So the only reason for the all animals become male is that the Court likes to balance the numbers? The court can be silly.
