Re: DeepBlue's Vagabond - Act 1
Ritan Drenathy
Moving quickly to guard the escape of the man attacking, Ritan runs to the end of the row of seats. Remaining silent, Ritan hopes the man will forget he is there and be distracted by the other people in the theatre. Skidding to a stop at the end of the aisle, Ritan watches as the odd figure strikes Len. Deciding to act quickly, Ritan lets a dagger fly. The magical glow lighting the room bounces off the sharp edge of the knife as it flies across the dim room towards the hamstring of the attacker.

"Oof!" Len has a brief flashback to that white-hot tearing sensation she felt last time she took a CBM (center body mass) strike.
This sharp pain in her abdomen is much different, but she wastes no time: bracing a gloved hand halfway down the blade, she lunges...

Harold pauses in his playing and speaks a few light sibilant syllables that flicker through the air like sparks as he snaps his fingers, causing bright lights to flash in front of the halfling's eyes.

Dammit. Sorry guys. If you start to become impatient, feel free to PM me - sometimes I just overwhelmed with crap and completely forget about what needs to be done!
Len swiftly strikes at the opening the halfling pest leaves for her, but there is too much pull to her swing, sending her attack far off-target. Ritan quickly hurls a knife at the fleeing halfling, but misses by a great deal as well - the blade lodges itself in the wooden boards of a nearby seat. Fargrim rushes forward to join the fray, but fails to keep up with the halfling's tiny but quick feet. The pint-sized villain sprints through the doors, pushing them wide open with a surprising burst of strength. He quickly turns the corner, leaving no opportunity for either Flare or Harold cast any enchantments upon him.
"Fast as fast can be, you'll never catch me!" He calls out, mockingly.

"We'll see!" Len snarls, inadvertantly completing the rhyme as she dashes out the doors after him. She tries not to curse herself as she glances down at the awkward weapon she can't seem to adjust to.
Maybe she should depart from convention a little...

All but Len hesitate to give chase to the Halfling - while she charges forth adamantly. Her heavy footsteps echo can be heard clearly as she rushes to meet the foe again. "C'mere! I've got a surprise for you!" He quickly replies, "Ho ho, my delicious morsel! Hopefully that can wait until when we have a little more privacy!"
A rather infuriated Len can be heard charging forth again, to chase the cackling fiend.

The group quickly gives chase to the fleeing madman, returning to the entrance hall, where they find Len gazing up one of the stairways. Just reaching the top is the halfling, his tiny legs kicking much faster than what most would think possible. "Hee hee!" he hastily grabs the door handle with a grin, but his expression quickly turns sour when the door doesn't budge. "NYYYAH! OPEN, YOU BASTARD!" He soon gives up trying to move the door, and his panicked eyes turn to scan you all, dreadfully. Fearful of what may come next, he clutches his sword tightly.

Harold Betruger
Harold jumps slightly as Flare shouts, but he quickly regains his composure. he tries to catch faragrim's eye and nods towards the narrow area of the hallway unblocked by the party.
"This is where I step up. if he goes for the door, take him down," he whispers.
Harold coughs into his hand and gently steps in front of Len.
"All right, my dear shortstack, the gig is up. I know at least half of my friends here would just love to serve you your own kidneys right about now. There wouldn't even be any legal paperwork: self-defense, see? We've even got the wounds to prove it. Nice and easy for us...unpleasant for you. But!"
Harold smiles a handsome smile, and claps his hands "lucky for you, I understand! You've lost this round of the game...but if you play your last trick right, you'll get to play again one day. Come with us, and it's cut and shuffle. Try and run or fight...and it's curtains for you."

Re: DeepBlue's Vagabond - Act 1
Fargrim takes a five foot step towards Mr. Coppertone and delays. If Benji starts escaping, Fargrim starts hitting, but as of now, he holds back.
"You're lucky I'm such a reasonable fellow, Harold. Let's see what he has to say, I guess."

Re: DeepBlue's Vagabond - Act 1
"Be careful," says Flare quietly. "I think this is another trick."
-
Re: DeepBlue's Vagabond - Act 1
The halfling complete ignores Flare's aura, his eyes fixed on Harold ((sorry, apparently the dice gods favor Benji)).
"You make a strong argument, sir. Especially regarding the kidneys - they are indeed a delightful dish, but I'm afraid I lack the ability to reabsorb them through digestion. Were they removed, it would be a dreadful inconvenience!"
He pauses, and plucks a feather out of a hole in his costume, which he twiddles in his fingers.
"But before anything, let me ask you this: Why doesn't a chicken wear pants? ...Because his pecker is on his head!" Ritan notices the halfling drops something to Harold's feet.

Ritan Drenathy
Listening to the madman's ramblings Ritan mumbles under his breath to whoever is nearest, "sick bastard". Drawing a new knife from its hiding spot, Ritan notices the halfling drop an object at Harold's feet. Not wanting to see the effect, Ritan jumps back several feet and ducks to the floor shielding his face with his forearms.

Re: DeepBlue's Vagabond - Act 1
Ritan warily jumps back to protect himself from what he presumes to be something hazardous, but as his allies move in, nothing happens. It is then that Fargrim rushes forward to attack, but he swings in a predictable motion, which the halfling easily avoids.
As this happens, Flare fires a bolt of energy upon the lone foe, which strikes him in the torso. "Gkkkkktttt-" He gurgles, holding his chest in pain, and falls backwards. He lands hard, and his sword bounces out of his hand and comes to a rest at Fargrim's feet.
With the foe down, Harold instinctively holds back his spellcasting, to not waste the effort ((that is, unless you still want to cast it anyway  )).
Len curiously looks over Harold's shoulder. "Is he dead?"

Re: DeepBlue's Vagabond - Act 1
Flare stays where he is. "Somehow I was expecting him to be a little tougher," he says quietly. "It doesn't matter though. Here Len, you can use this to tie him up." He rummages through his pack and gives her his rope.

He takes a deep lungful, about to yell some more, but Len quickly puts a hand over his mouth. "MMMMPHM MPH MMMMMMMMMPH!"
"Hey, ace, hurry up and help me out! I can't tie him up if I have to hold him down, too!"

I'm sure a professional skill covers a lot more ground than repeatedly tying ropes. I'd gladly grant a synergy (though nobody quite has 5 ranks in anything yet...), but a complete substitution doesn't sit right with me.
Flare moves closer to tie up the scoundrel, but even when pinned, his squirming makes it too hard him to make an effective binding.

SRD seems to agree: "You get a +10 bonus on this check because it is easier to bind someone than to escape from bonds. You don’t even make your Use Rope check until someone tries to escape."
Whoops.
The halfling screams through Len's hand as Flare manages to bind him. "GAH!" cries out Len, as she withdraws her hand. A bit of red drips down her arm, which she gazes at while the halfling tries to break away. Infuriated, Len throws a fist at the halfling, the force sending his head back into the ground with a loud thud. You're sure he's out cold.
"Little twerp..."
Flare then takes the opportunity to finish the binding, unhindered. It seems quite secure.

Ritan Drenathy
After a few seconds, Ritan lowers his hand from his face. No explosion, no magical blast, nothing. Feeling slightly embarrassed, Ritan stands up and dusts his clothes off hoping no one noticed. He walks towards the halfling as Len and Flare attempt to bind him.
Looking down at the halfling, Ritan asks, "So, now that we have some time to talk, why don't you tell us your name?"
