Default Re: Bombs Away - Heat 1 Underway

Trophy time! Generously made by Elder Tsofu, and at outrageously short notice on my part too.

For our winner, Otakuryoga:

For our deadiest competitors, Bobby Archer and Billtodamax:

For our almost forgotten inactives, Khal and Lord Loss:

And finally, participation trophies for everyone:

3. It does with the exception of the bruce-lee power. I think, to keep that confusing, perhaps bruce-lee upon use of power teleports to someplace random?
This is fair, and I realised the Bruce Lee power screwed the holder any time it actually went off. So for Heat 2 the Bruce Lee power does have a limited teleport which kicks in when the user frags someone. Hopefully that will improve the power.

I think the game may run into a problem when one player gets a few frags in a row. Once Otakuryoga got Super Bombing Arm and X-ray Specs, as long as he stood still, he was effectively invisible. Really, most combinations of abilities have the capability to make someone exponentially harder to hit and/or much more likely to kill a target. So, once someone starts winning, they become very hard to stop.
I agree with this, and it's something I need to think about. Once Otakuryoga got the ability to shoot anywhere on the board and have his shots pass through walls, and shoot four spots if he stood still...well, there is a problem there.

Also, depending on the player's circumstances, the same bonus can be hugely overpowering or completely useless. X-ray specs meant nothing to someone with base range in the middle of the map, but could be huge to someone hiding in a corner. Super bombing arm means nothing to a sniper, but everything to just about anyone else.

And dragon breath only has the drawback of making the other players want you gunned down so bad, they don't care if it costs them the game.
To be fair, I don't think it was Bill's intention to gift Otakuryoga the game, and I'm not sure it was the power itself that caused any problem. After all, if you're fragged from one square away or ten squares away the end result is the same. Intestine Soup for tea!

Very true about the power up combinations though. I'm considering upgrade trees based on people's starting abilities like you said, or maybe only having one upgrade usable at once, so that if you frag a second target you have to chose whether to take the new power or stick with the old one.

Either that or upgrades will drop on the square someone gets fragged, so anyone can pick them up.

I think some kind of color or narration would help as things start to feel repetitive as the game goes on.

I'd definitely be interested in playing again, but I think I'd want to wait on rankings or anything of that sort until the rules are a little more solid.
Yeah, FPS style updates work to get the relevant information across, but I think a bit of flavour narration would help. Noted for future rounds. As far as future heats go, I think I'm going to finish Heat 2 and then take a good hard look at the rules, tweak them until they scream, then go for another Heat. I have a bit of work to do before that comes around though.

perhaps have movement done by PM instead of in thread(your poor inbox though)
that way even in event such as we had there would be no way to know where FC moved to
PM movement would help to avoid FC's final deatha nd similar situations, but as you say, my poor inbox! I want to keep this game as PM-light as possible for both myself and players, so that I can run it alongside WW games, rather than instead of.

Or Bruce Lee and Dragon Breath should teleport to another point with killing.
Teleportation for Dragon Breath could be good, but does that make it too powerful? The possibility of getting multiple frags and being untraceable afterwards is a major one.

I asked about your systems because in Heat 2 people have got scripts running and all that kind of madness. I didn't think anyone would take this silly game so seriously!
