The USPS tracking has changed, but as of a year ago it was still not terribly useful. For example, they don't track what address it was delivered to. In the case of the package I was looking for - not from ookoodook - going to two different post offices eventually got me to a helpful woman who figured out that it had been delivered on a route that doesn't come anywhere near my house. However, they still didn't know what address it had been misdelivered to, so it was permanently lost. The seller absorbed the $150 loss, which was nice for me, but must have been a pain for her.
UPS and FedEx tracking are considerably better, and in my experience they are a lot prompter and more reliable about delivery as well. They can be more expensive, though.
