"The First is for your family, to preserve your ancestor's line;
The Second is for the Imperium, to continue your ancestor's service;
The Third is for Lo, to maintain your ancestor's legacy."
-Loi Saying
Following the conquest of the Calixis Sector, many of the Imperial Guard units involved had earned the Right of Settlement, among them the Morrigan 115th who were given the planet of Lo. As is typical in such cases, the officers from the regiment were elevated to nobel status, given positions of great power and authority. From this origin arose the tradition of the planet of the first born being raised to serve the families interests, the second born of
each being raised to join either the Imperial Navy or, more typically, the Guard, and the third set to be devoted to the improvement and protection of Lo, either by joining the Administratum, Adeptus Arbites, PDF, or Ecclesiarchy. Additionally, the noble houses are marked by a tradition of honoring their originator, occassionally leading to duels fought over percieved insults, especially between families originating from rival companies. Duels are fought with monosabres styled to resemble those once wielded in battle by their fore-bearers. Only disgraced Loi nobles are without a sabre bearing their familial arms. Entrance to one of the military services is the cause of much rejoicing for the family, leading to a week of feasting and celebration, culminating in the newly commisioned officer recieving the gift of a laspistol from the head of their household. This is the life that Tybalt Augustus was born into, the third son of the patriarch's youngest daughter, by virtue of being born moments after his brother. While his brother was groomed for a career in the Imperial Guard, Tybalt spent much of his time in study of the Imperial Creed. It was decided he would serve in the Ecclesiarchy, honoring his ancestor by guarding the souls of the faithful on Lo against corruption. This was not to be not through any fault of his own, but as his older brother was caught in the bedchambers of another man's fiancee. Tybalt acted as his brother's second in the ensuing duel, and the newly commissioned lieutenant made short work of his opponent: the planetary governor's youngest son. While the governor could not act overtly against the Augustus family as his son died in a legal duel, he used his influence in an effort to hurt the family. Knowing that remaining on the planet made himself am easy target for the governor's anger, Tybalt took to the stars, becoming a missionary, exposing the heresy and corruption that festered in the dark underbelly of the Imperium to the Emperor's cleansing light. His independent actions lead to his recruitment by the Inquisition, providing him official authorization to continue his private quest.
