Im going with, cant play for some reason. College, work, he moved away, something, its keeping him from getting together with the group as much as he wants.
WAIT! That explains it! Ben will come back to play as obi wan for a bit but cant keep doing it so vadar gets to kill him in a dramatic scene! Something like, "Ok, its the winter holidays from college, so lets play!"
