Brand watched the hatred play across Mine's face, and it made him feel a little better, to know this one was not completely broken. That he still thought it cruel for others to be whipped.
He cringes at Waterstrider's tone, blaming himself. Waterstrider was more than a friend to him. He had protected his wife and children. He was family. And Brand had brought him to this place, exposing him to this.
It's for a good cause. If we can rescue this slave, and any more who are here, he'll agree that the stripes on his back were well earned.
I hope.
But first, he had to try and get more information.
