Ah okay, so we're both going in the same direction for awhile then? I think the map and general orientation of stuff was something I never really grasped down completely. Also that was kind of a more complex fight so that might explain at least in part why the encounter went on for so long - there were several elements to deal with! I do think group init would be something worth looking into as well, though. The mechanics might be skewed but I think the speed at which we'd get through things would make up for that!
