Spoiler
The Imperium of Man's merchant fleet constitutes the vast majority of human starships that ply the stars. Given the vast distances between planets on their trade routes, and the dangers that lurk amidst the darkness it is not uncommon for a convoy to vanish leaving behind no trace of their fate. While the Chartist Captains can do little to alleviate the dangers caused by warp storms and other natural occurrences, the convoys take measures to defend themselves against void pirates and xenos raiders. Q-ships such as the Spear of Retribution hide among the convey, waiting to catch unwary pirates with their hidden armaments. On this ship defined by deceit, Theodore McTarnaghan was born, the son of the Ship's pilot, and fated to follow in her footsteps a path his older siblings had already set out upon.
His early years were spent running errands for the Helm crew, some of which were occasionally less than legal. His small frame allowed him to utilize service cooridors and even occassionally sections of the underdeck. As he grew, he was eventually to large to continue as a courier, Theo began his training to become a full fledged member of the Helm crew. He was quickly disabused of his notion that such work would be glamourous and proftiable, particualrly as the youngest child of five the best he could hope for was to become a shuttle pilot. While others of the crew spent their off hours gambling or carousing, Theo would explore the underdecks to scatch his itch for adventure. This knowledge was to serve the Spear well in the coming months.
In a section of space marked as safe on the convoy's ancesteral charts, the ships were set upon by a cobbled together monstrosities utilized crewed by humanity's oldest foe: the dreaded Orks! Despite successfully destroying the ork capital ship, the Spear of Retribution and other craft in the merchant fleet had been struck by a number of boarding torpedoes, a few of which had disgorged their lethal cargo into the underdecks. Theo volunteered to lead the armsmen into the labyrinthine passages to purge the ship of the foul orks. Of utmost importance was dealing with the threat they posed to the ship's engines and life support, as should they disable, or worse destroy these vital systems the Spear would at best be crippled. The fighting was fiercest in these areas, the armsmen valiantly trying to hold the slavering orks at bay. Only the timely intervention of the group lead by Theodore, emerging from the underdeck to flank the ork assault, prevented the xenos from overrunning the hastily thrown together barricades. The ships enginseer himself barely escaped death on the edge of a ork cleaver, surviving only as a result of the timely intervention of the young helmsman. Leaping onto the ork's back, Theo was able to distract the xenos, hacking and stabbing at its head. This distraction allowed the enginseer to escape, the ork turning his attentions to the hummie on it's back. Theo was flung off of the creature into the bulkhead, cracking his ribs and dislocating his left shoulder. The ork roared at the seemingly doomed young man, its gaping maw spraying him with saliva. In response, Theo blasted the back of the ork's head out through the roof of it's mouth.
A grateful captain left the ship's saviour at their next stop with a letter of introduction for an old friend: the Great Grandfather of the Rogue Trader. Stepping off the Spear of Retribution for the last time, his still shiny MIU itching from its recent installation, a gift from the enginseer, and his wound still giving him the occasional twinge, Theodore sought out the Rogue Trader. Now Theo can seek his fortune, so long he can survive...
Theo will use Teal for his voice
