Faction Backstory:
Spoiler
Following decades of unrest in the Middle East and in parts of northern Africa, a powerful mercenary organization led by Farid Karimi sparked a massive revolution with himself as the head. There were rumors abound about possible Western funding, as the Karimi Mercenaries were armed with hundreds of the latest tanks and infantry weaponry available at the time. Their numbers swelled into the millions as the revolution crossed borders, all led by portions of the Karimi Mercs, and soon Egypt, Libya, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, and other countries throughout the Middle East and northern Africa fell under their sway.
As the flames of revolution died down, Farid was crowned King of the newly founded Karimi Union. The region enjoyed unity, wealth, and prosperity not seen in hundreds of years, and Karimi Union became a notable world power, though certainly not on the level of the United States or the EU. Their absorption of several of their smaller neighbors through force was strongly frowned upon by the global powers, but the rapid strikes and surprisingly tight security prevented them from doing anything until it was too late.
Upon Farid’s death in the early 2080s, his eldest son Nasir Karimi was coronated as King of the Karimi Union, but Farid’s other son, Rasul, objected to this. His many supporters joined together, and a bloody succession war ensued. While the war only lasted mere months, hundreds of thousands were killed, and the war only ended when extremist forces within Rasul’s supporters took over a nuclear launch facility, launching three dozen nuclear weapons at the capital and other key cities. While a number of these were shot down, over a dozen detonated, leveling several cities and military installations and killing tens of millions of civilians in an instant. Fortunate enough not to be in these cities, Nasir called for a ceasefire with his younger brother, and their forces joined together to lay waste to the extremist forces.
Finally, a year later, the two brothers met together to negotiate the terms of peace. Many of Nasir’s men had died during the fighting, and with radiation levels through the roof throughout much of the Union, it was of paramount importance for the brothers to officially end the war. With his younger brother’s forces depleted, Rasul refused to give his brother the throne, and while Nasir was willing to accept not becoming King, the disrespect shown by his brother during the negotiations set off his short temper, and he drew his gun, killing the King just like that. Nasir was severely wounded during the ensuing chaos, but his guard managed to protect him long enough for him to escape.
As the loyalist forces moved to escort Rasul’s wife and two young daughters away to safety, Nasir’s forces sprung up. His generals had positioned men in place in case Rasul had attempted to backstab Nasir, and while this was not the situation they had expected, they took advantage of it. Many key figures in Rasul’s military died, and during the ensuing chaos, Nasir’s forces took over several key installations. Nasir’s generals called upon the loyalists to surrender, and with their leader dead, many of them did. The war was finally over.
Many loyalist forces objected as Nasir took the throne, and insurgents throughout the country rose up, still loyal to the late Rasul. But Nasir had an iron grip on the country, and any insurgents caught were brutally put down. Unlike his father, Nasir was a corrupt ruler, caring more for himself than his people, and a temperamental one to boot. Only a few short years after coming into power, he declared war on neighboring Turkey, firing several nuclear weapons before the official declaration.
The war did not have a chance to conclude, however, for the very next day after the missiles struck, the chaos began. Many wondered if it was Nasir’s nuclear attack that finally pushed Gaia over the edge, but no one can argue that Nasir did not get his comeuppance. A massive earthquake torn apart Cairo, and a huge fissure opened up, swallowing the royal palace and its occupants, including the corrupt King himself. There was no chance of escape.
Hidden in the northern part of the Union were the remaining true loyalists of Rasul’s army, guarding his two young daughters. His wife had passed away a year before due to complications from stress, and the loyalists had planned to bide their time until the daughters came of age before attempting to take the throne back once more. The chaos did little to deter them, hidden in bunkers throughout the region, but the appearance of the Marked changed many things. Forced out of their bunkers due to raids by the Marked, the loyalists, banded together, and escorting the teenage Sabana Karimi and her twin Amina, they fled to the north, to Europe, heading for the spaceport that they hoped was intact. The loyalists included many family members of the original Karimi Mercenaries, and they had kept up their proud heritage as tank operators. Hundreds of tanks and supporting vehicles rolled through the Middle East and up to Europe, losing dozens along the way thanks to attacks by the Marked. But they soon reached the spaceport, claiming one of the shipyards as they began construction of a Township to launch themselves and their princess into space. They had sworn their lives to protect her, and they did not plan to simply lay down and die.

Still, she is willing to serve under the sister she trusts, even if their love has been tested far too often in recent times.
