Actually, it should be written down somewhere: RULE 1 (of every system): don't give the GM ideas.
Not at all, you are meant to give the storyteller options for tearing your character down horrible in ways you didn't expect so that they can build themselves up again (and so that the good things that don't fail are so much better).
That lovely delicious roleplaying right there.
