Axile hears the voices of those inside. Frustrated by the inability to see (again), he instead backs up, and casts a defensive spell, hoping to protect himself from their assaults. Using his wings, he is able to gain some altitude, in hopes that they will be unable to assault him while he is in the air.
As he finishes the spell, a circle around his feet forms around him, and a semi-translucent cylinder seems to form around him.
