Re: Well That Was Unexpected. (backstory comic)
Actually, part of the Scavenger Theory is in the legs. They're quite thick--and therefore some believe very heavy. Combine that with the rest of the Rex's thick, large bones, and the average theorized density of the things wouldn't allow for fast movement.
Then some other found that those same huge, thick bones were filled with air-pockets, like birds. This would reduce the weight and allow the damn thing to move much quicker. Like a half empty soda can.
They're still fighting 'bout that one, though, and the above is just a small part. There's also the way the eyes are positioned, the size of the part of the brain controlling olfactory senses, leg muscles, the possibility of the Rex being a pack animal....
Parts of the debate are quite interesting. Other parts, like one documentary I watched that tried to ram "The Rex was a Scavenger! No doubts about it!" down your throat because "It has thick bones! I must have walked like an elephant!" (no, really, they declared that the best way to see how the Rex walked was via watching elephants)....
Damn. I'm helping to derail a thread. Please ignore the idiot in the jar!
Changing the subject, I look forward to seeing how this comic pans out, Randy.
