Chocolate Hammer IRC: A how-to
Quote:

You have chosen, or been chosen, to relocate to one of our finest remaining Internet Relay Chats. I thought so much of this IRC channel, after having been elected to establish operator powers , here, in this #chocolatehammer, so thoughtfully provided by our benefactor. I am proud to call #chocolatehammer my home. And so, whether you are here to stay, or passing through to parts unknown, welcome, to #chocolatehammer. It's safer here.

Join us in #chocolatehammer on irc.sorcery.net, using the password of chha
There are many ways to connect to and enjoy IRC, either by using a web client, a traditional desktop client, or by using a plugin for your browser / game. If you already have some experience using IRC but would like to know more, once you're inside the channel, any questions you might have should be answered by those already present.
Web
Spoiler
Mibbit
One of the most popular and easiest web clients around, Mibbit only asks for a nickname, server and a channel. It runs on all sorts of browsers, both mobile and desktop variant. To connect to #chocolatehammer, connect to the server first (irc.sorcery.net), after which you type in
Code:
/join #chocolatehammer chha
However, Mibbit is terrible and you should get a real client.
Desktop
Spoiler
There's a Brobdingnagian amount of desktop clients available, like mIRC and XChat, both of which are the easiest to set up, and with the latter useful for different operating systems. Beside those, there's Pidgin, Colloquy, Adium, ircII if you're adventurous, MirandaIM, and a whole slew of other such clients. I'll briefly describe mIRC, XChat and Adium here.
mIRC
Once you open mIRC after installing it, a screen should appear which asks for your name, email and nickname. Only your nickname is of importance, the rest can be gibberish. Once you have set these credentials, you have to choose the server. You can select Sorcery.net from the dropdown menu, or enter irc.sorcery.net and once you connect, it will ask you which channels you want to visit. You can type in #chocolatehammer chha where it's needed, and it'll connect you, but you might want to set it to join the channel automatically, should you wish to return.
XChat
XChat works pretty similar to mIRC, and following the steps above will work just as well. Otherwise, when you're in a terminal, type
Code:
/server irc.sorcery.net
and after that,
Code:
/join #chocolatehammer chha
Adium
Adium works like so;
Plugins
Spoiler
One of the more popular ways to connect to #chocolatehammer is the ChatZilla plugin for Firefox. Once you have it installed, all you need to do is open it from your Tools menu, configure as desired, then type
Code:
/server irc.sorcery.net
and
Code:
/j #chocolatehammer chha
once it finishes connecting.
