I believe, though I'm no expert, that the genes for male pattern baldness are passed through the female line. In other words: you don't inherit it from your father, but from your mother's father.

As for Roy, he's not bald - he's shaven-headed, which is an option for tough-guy stereotypes.

And also an option for making your balding seem less ugly and piece-by-piece.
