    News and Rumors
    • The Battle of N̨id̨sli was an unmitigated disaster. After early minor victories, Fëkälis pushed deeper into [Region 10], and when he finally met real resistance, the best army the native city-states could muster was still significantly outnumbered. Overconfident from his earlier success and weak opposing force, Fëkälis pushed aggressively. He realized too late that he has been led into a trap in the unfamiliar terrain and cleverly arranged enemy battle lines. Seeing only one chance to prevent himself from being encircled and destroyed, the king launched a heroic charge to break through the enemy lines. He was promptly felled by a spearman. Seeing their king fall, the charge quickly collapsed and the battle turned to a slaughter. Those who survived scattered directionlessly.
    • With the annihilation of the royal army, rumors spread quickly about what happened. Many say Fëkälis was killed in the charge, others insist he was only wounded. Whether he was captured and taken prisoner by the enemy, or simply executed is debated endlessly. A faction of the priesthood in Hüpägh declare the defeat is a sign of the royal family losing the gods' favor. The Lords of Këpääs seize the opportunity to renounce their allegiance to D̨vatla and declare a new kingdom in the highlands north of the upper reaches of the Gakhus.
    • Fëkälis did, in fact, survive. A band of Abhidic warrior monks were able to escape the battle with his unconscious body, protected by elite spearmen from the mountain valleys who held out long enough to buy the monks time to disappear into the hills. With their help, he is able to return to Khlıghat to heal and begin planning the difficult process of rebuilding his collapsing kingdom.
    • The great philosopher Häkhüneqedtlı travels to the heart of the Avakonian Empire, hoping to collect information dating back to Dejan's day which will help him in creating a more accurate and detailed map of Emjata. While in the Empire, he hears rumors of knowledgeable cartographers further south, and also of the Pician menace. In his reports back to D̨vatla the two become conflated, and there is much confusion about why omnicidal, aquatic monsters would have such a keen interest in map-making.
