This is certainly true.
But it is true for every author, ever, seeing as the vast bulk of humanity had better things to do than read, given that written language hadn't been invented, and they were at constant danger of starvation, sickness, hypothermia and being mauled by other predators, amongst other considerations.
Limiting it to living people today, still probably true for every author ever, though.
