I don't get it. What are they surprised about? Did they expect him not to try to avoid being killed?

With the motion lines in the second panel and how Pellan's on the other side in the third panel, I think they're surprised at how fast he moves.

Also "Perhaps effort is required"? You're trying to kill somebody/vainquish a demon, did you really expect not to have to make an effort? what kind of demon-hunter are you, even?

The kind that purports to hunt demons so efficiently that they consider it effortless, I would guess.


(I'm also not sure if what, if anything, the different color of the speech bubbles means.)
