But in the end, the Admiral turns to him when there is a lull in the activity, brief though it is. "Yes?" he says, voice not rude but demanding that Longshot be quick and to the point.

Love's speech, while not enough to cause a dramatic reversal of opinion and new wave of optimism, is enough to spur the engineers to action. They begin working together with her to fix the engine. First, they focus on repairing the one that is only lightly damaged before working on the second one that Love melted. Soon, the ship is at least chugging along at a slow pace.

Unfortunately, the storm is headed for the mainland, though it the edge is still primed to hit them. They will have to press forward.
