RC's The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
A game for up to 6 players starting at level 3

"In the vast, deep forest of Hyrule... Long have I served as the guardian spirit...

I am known as the Deku Tree...

The children of the forest, the Kokiri, live here with me...

Navi... Navi, where art thou? Come hither....

Oh, Navi the fairy... Listen to my words, the words of the Deku Tree... Dost thou sense it? The climate of evil descending upon this realm... Malevolent forces even now are mustering to attack our land of Hyrule...

For so long, the Kokiri Forest, the source of life, has stood as a barrier, deterring outsiders and maintaining the order of the world... But...before this tremendous evil power, even my power is as nothing.

It seems the time has come for the children of fate to begin their journey... The youths whose destiny it is to lead Hyrule to the path of justice and truth...

Navi...go now! Find our young friends and guide them to me... I do not have much time left. Fly, Navi, fly! The fate of the forest, nay, the world, depends upon thee!"

Spoiler: Big 16

What game system are you running?
D&D 3.5

What is the setting for the game?
The game takes place in Kokiri Forest, a tame-ish region of The Lost Woods in The Kingdom of Hyrule.

You are all members of the Kokiri, a race of diminutive forest dwellers who have the appearance of Hylian children who never grow up. Their age is unrelated to physical appearance; everyone looks about twelve. Time moves strangely in the woods anyway, so age is pretty meaningless. Kokiri never leave the forest, as to do so they would die.

The Kokiri live side by side with the fairies who are their friends, protectors, and teachers. Fairies appear as 3" balls of glowing light with diaphonous wings, or tiny humanoids on close inspection.

Kokiri Forest is watched over by The Great Deku Tree. For as long as your people have stories The Great Deku Tree has always protected your people, using his magic to provide for you and turn away outsiders from his glade near the village.

He summons you now.

How many players are you looking for?
5-6 players.

What is the gaming medium?
Play by post on this forum. Aim for several IC posts a week. This may be a long campaign, so please be in it for the long haul.

What is the characters' status?
Level 3. Leveling is by checkpoint.

How much gold will the characters begin with?
Wealth by level. 2700 Rupees.

Forest shop:
900 Rupee max per item.
Items with significant wood or leather components cost 75% their usual price.
Items with significant metal components cost 200% their usual price.

Allowable starting classes?
Any non-home-brewed from an allowable source.

Allowable races?
All players are Kokiri.
Kokiri are as per human, except small.
You get a +2 campaign bonus to all saves.

Fairies are NOT a racial feature of Kokiri, but they may be taken via the "Fairy Companion" feat as below. Fairies are also an option as a familiar, in which case the familiar bonus is a +1 morale bonus to saves.

Spoiler: Fairy Companion

This feat may be taken at first level. A member of the Kokiri tribe may be accompanied by a Fairy Companion. The stats of a Fairy are given below. A fairy companion has a number of hit dice equal to that of its master. A fairy companion gains skill points, attribute improvements and feats as normal.

Fairy (Fine Fey)
Hit dice: 1d6 (4hp)
Initiative: +8
Speed: Fly 60ft (perfect)
Armour Class: 23 (+8 size, +4 Dex, +1def), touch 23, flat footed 19
Base Attack/Grapple: +0/-20
Attacks: Unarmed Strike +4 (-4)
Full Attack: Unarmed Strike +4 (-4)
Space/Reach: 0.5ft / 0ft
Special Attacks: -
Special Qualities: Low Light Vision
Saves: FORT+0, REF+8, WILL+4
Attributes: Str2, Dex19, Con10, Int14, Wis15, Cha12
Skills: Hide+0*, Move Silently+8, Spot+6, Listen+6, Sense Motive+6, Knowledge(Nature)+6, 2x Knowledge (Any)+6
Feats: Weapon Finesse(b), Lightning Relieves, Improved Initiative

*Fairies have a -16 racial modifier on hide checks due to their obvious glow. Fairies may shift between corporeal and incorporeal forms as a standard action.

Fairies appear as floating balls of light with diaphonous wings (or as humanoids on close inspection) that glow about as brightly as a candle. Only their death can extinguish the glow, though they can try to hide it. Entering an object also obscures the glow.

How should players generate their starting stats?
Attributes 36pt buy.

Hit Points: Max at level 1. Thereafter half rounded up.

Bonus feat: An extra bonus feat is granted at first level.

Flaws: No flaws.

Traits: Up to 1 trait permitted.

BaB/Saves: Fractional or regular per player preference. Just be consistent.

For the purpose of bonus languages, you all speak Hylian (common).

Other languages spoken in Hyrule:
Deku Scrub
Sheikah (Ancient Hylian)

Instead of Druidic pick Fairy, Deku Scrub or Sheikah. Fairy is associated with Spirits, Deku Scrub with Forest Creatures, and Sheikah with the ancients.

The major deities are The Three Goddesses:
Din, Goddess of Power
Nauru, Goddess of Wisdom
Farore, Goddess of Courage

There are a couple of manifest spirits, like the Great Deku Tree
There are other more minor deities, more like major spirits, but they wouldn't be general knowledge to the Kokiri.

Alignment restrictions?
Player characters must not be evil or cowardly.

Yes, without penalty.

How do dice rolls work?
Using the forum dice roller.

Variant Rules?
A few house rules will be in effect as detailed below. The initiative fix is to try and keep PbP going smoothly. Sword and board, archery, improvised weapons and riding all get a few goodies as they're thematic to the campaign. Then there are some feat tax reductions.

If anything you have planned is in conflict with any of the changes below, we should be able to come to an arrangement.

Spoiler: Initiative
Enemies will go by group initiative. Players may post in any order, but actions will be adjudicated in player initiative order.

Spoiler: Feats

Power Attack: One handed and Two handed weapons both get +2 to damage for each point of BaB sacrificed.

Deadly Aim: This feat is Power Attack for Ranged Weapons. +2 to damage for each point of BaB sacrificed for any ranged weapon.

Weapon Focus: Combines Weapon Focus (BaB+1), Weapon Specialisation (BaB+4), Greater Weapon Focus (BaB+8), Greater Weapon Specialisation (BaB+12). Linked to BaB, not fighter level.

Two Weapon Fighting: You get an extra attack with your off hand each time you are granted an additional iterative attack due to BaB. This replaced improved and greater two weapon fighting.

Point Blank Shot is no-longer a prerequisite feat.

Mounted Combat is no longer a prerequisite feat.

Spoiler: Shields
Available Shields:
Bucklers (1AC), per srd.
Shield (3AC), and grants Cover and Evasion as an immediate action against one attack against the bearer. Stats otherwise as per a heavy shield in the srd.
Tower Shield (5AC) and grants total cover (including improved evasion) against one attack against the bearer. Stats otherwise as per a tower shield in the srd.

Shield AC applies to touch AC.

An inappropriately sized shield counts as a shield of a different type (heavier or lighter). A shield lighter than a buckler or heavier than a tower shield cannot be used in combat.

The Animated Enhancement may not be taken.

Spoiler: Improvised Weapons
You only count as non-proficient with an improvised weapon if it isn't similar to a weapon you have proficiency with. E.g. A chair leg is similar to a small club so you may use it without penalty, but a complete chair would be too weird.

How will player selection be made?
I will select players on the quality of their submitted characters.

I am looking for a physical description, and a good feel for the character's personality. Decent character art is a definite plus. Background should be kept short; you haven't done anything of note and your skills are amateur.

This will not be first come first served. I will select what I consider to be the best applications.

What is the style of gameplay?
A large proportion of the game will be dungeon crawl, so combat heavy with some puzzles and NPC interaction.

Allowable sourcebooks?
Any official 3.5 sourcebook. Spell Compendium takes precedence over earlier spell versions. No Homebrew.
