In this case what you want is something heavy and filling, which is why I suggested chili. Beans are dense and have a high protein and medium fat content (depending on type) so they send the "you are stuffed" signal. The more whole the bean the better, mashing them makes them less filling and avoid pinto beans as they are fat free.
Eh, I think 'can anybody thing of something that would make a good roast centrepiece' is a fine ask. This is more trying to find something that serves a role in the meal than a direct replacement, it's closer to grilling aubergine on the barbecue than a bean burger (and now I want grilled aubergine...)
