It was actually quite gratifying once I grasped finally what it was I was supposed to do. It was the description of the brazier not giving off heat that finally gave it away.

Ignoring the disgusting "man" in kind, Merrick instead moves to examine the golden statues. Avarice is, after all, next to godliness.

At first, Merrick does not touch the statues, instead trying to get a good look at the details of them, looking for things of value, like gems for eyes and the like.

The statues have fire opals for eyes. They are exquisitely crafted, masterfully wrought and perfectly symmetrical, though rather detailless, and their faces very oddly shaped, as if one made a man by glancing at one from a distance. It wears a girdle and nothing else, and this, the lips and the hair are made of ebony.

Merrick tries to pop a statue's eye out.

The statue comes alive, slams a forearm into you, sending you sailing across the room to smash into the wall. You blsck out for a second, and lie there in a stupor for a few more. The man snorts, possibly in humor but also possibly because of a particularily runny tomato he's eating.

If I'm on, I've posted. Just assume that. This is 1st priority for me, aside from another campaign I happen to be running (It's in my sig, dystopian fun- check it out, if you happen to be interested in that kind of thing.)

"What's so funny, Rotten Jack, did you see your face reflected in a prune?" asks Merrick snarkily, rubbing his head where it hit the wall, looking to see if there's any blood on his fingers.

[Gorgondantess]

The old man simply grunts, and starts eating the bones of a devoured chicken. By this time there is a pile of chewed food about a foot tall at the ground below his feet.

Plopping down at the seat next to the ravenous decaying fellow, Merrick pounds on the table and demands service.

So, does he just pound on the table, or what? Does he say anything? Try to be a bit more specific.

I'm very, very impatient. I just thought you should know that.

Pounding the table again, Merrick shouts, "Well, what does a man have to do to be served around here??"

After stewing a moment, he looks to the disgusting apparition before him, saying, "Look Father Time, I haven't got all day. What's it going to take to get me out of this jam-"
Noting a bit of jam dripping down off of the creature's ribs, the man concealed a smirk at the irony.
"an' back to saving my village?"

As you say this, you notice that the man seems to be getting his ffod from out of nowehere- there is onyl one samll plate of food, but every time you look in a different direction then look back, he seems to be eating something entirely different. When you pound on the table, one of the floating rocky being comes up next to the man, and then pulls a plate from under the table. On it is a pile of food that looks like someone took a knife to a three course meal for an hour- everything is chopped up and mangled, but it looks... uncontaminated. As far as you can tell, at least. It's hard to tell.

Let me give a better description of Sain and his tenets.
First and foremost, a servant of Sain must be charismatic. His priests emanate strength, confidence, power and sexuality, and should silence any room they walk into, demanding complete attention. Their bread and wine is sin and vice- almost all of his rituals involve some kind of alcohol or drugs, some kind of sexual affair. Obviously, Sain would be a very popular god- he rewards having fun. However, there is also a more serious side. Sain's strength is not an iron fist, but a silk glove- one over a strong, clawed hand. While on the outside a priest is jovial, funloving and confident, inside he must be wary, strong willed and clever. Though many worship Sain, he only rewards a few. While most gods reward long worship and devotion, one cannot gain Sain's affection- it is an inherent thing. Only the strong, the confident, the intelligent can become a worshipper of Sain. They must be prideful, and always show style and grace, but not to excess- there must be some pragmatism. It is very, very difficult to become a worthy of Sain, and only a select few are fit for it- but those who do manage are greatly rewarded.

Flipping the plate onto the ground nearby, Merrick states, "No, that won't do at all. Sain would be very disappointed if his priest allowed himself to eat that rubbish. Try again, and make it snappy."

The man glares at you, then flicks his hand in your direction. A bolt of energy flies out, hitting you square in the chest and flinging you against the wall. You pass out, and wake up to the same scene as before. He is eating caviar now, and as you watch some of his flesh sloughs off.

Come on, fool, think! What would Sain do? Well, if he were mortal, anyway. Merrick looks around for inspiration.

You looki around the room, for something.... but no. Aside from the way you came in, there are no exits. No ornamentation other than the tapestries torches, and a shelf behind the man. No furniture other than the chair and table.

((OoC: Ok, but really, this has been far too "puzzly" for me thus far; I barely got through the rat thing, and that was with coaxing. I pretty much have no ****ing clue what you want of me right now. There's no one to interact with, because the guy ignores me. In fact, everything animate in this room has now kicked my ass at least once. Where are we going with this? Pardon if it sounds whiny, but I had no idea I was going to have to spam critical thinking puzzles like this...))

Hmmm.... good point. I must admit, I'm being kindof unfair, as I was looking for a specific question. However, there are several ways out of here.

"Who are you? What is this place? Hellooooo...I'm talking to you."

He sighs, then looks at you, speaking in a gentle, fine voice that belies his appearance, and speaks eloquently and politely. "You're in my domain. I am a mage of great power. Right now, I am enjoying what little of humanity I have left. Please, be quiet. I need silence to enjoy my meal. Your brashness disturbs me... though I don't doubt my appearance has something to do with your rudeness. I am in quite a state, aren't I?"

EDIT: He then looks squarely at you, sizing you up. He's become far more imposing, and less vile. "Did you happen to come across a rat as you came here? And if so, what did you do to it?"

"What rat? I saw a rat-shaped scorch mark on the floor in the other room if that's what you mean," shrugs the priest.

"Oh... well... in the room with the 2 doors? Yes. He must've worked up the courage to finally try one. Poor old guy... unlucky, too. That rat was my familiar. I abandoned him there because I had no want for a familiar anymore, but I just didn't have the heart to get rid of him... It's all for the best, though." He resumes to eating his food.

"Look. I'm not here to interrupt your meal. I just want out, and then you can dine in peace for all eternity for all I care. Are you going to help me or not?"

"Well, fine, if it will get you out of my hair. The exit's through the shelf behind me."
