I like that idea, Mister Shades of Gray. I'd like to give you a biscuit, but I only have muffins right now.

But let's stop calling it the Material Plane. Instead, perhaps the Physical Universe ?

V: Yes, but there is nothing preventing us to make the origins and background of this fictional world more... down to earth.

We had a war, of spellcasters, that tore off a significant portion of life and matter from the planet.

I think we're a little far past low fantasy.

We can't really call it the "physical universe", all the other planes are physical to at least some extent. The Central Universe or the Core Universe makes a tad more sense.

Maybe "we" call our plane "the central/core universe" but would other planes?

I've been thinking about this, wouldn't The denizens of the outer planes think of their plane as the center of the cosmology? Maybe they wouldn't even have a center of the cosmology (Limbo) or that they simply don't draw it, they give it a rank based proximity to their plane(Mechanus). We may call our plane the central universe, but to others it would be "the material plane" I don't know, I'm just throwing it out there.

I think that the "planes" are in fact, part of the same universe. It would make more sense since we already have alternate universes.

The "planes" were physical ? Hmph...

EDIT: I say we make the "planes" more different then the normal universe. Make them more abstract, less tangible...

Maybe some of them, but certain ones (e.x. Mechanus, plane of law) wouldn't be abstract at all.

/\/\/\Their attitude would be based on their parental plane, I think. Modrons could call us "the unorganized ones", Devas "the filthy ones", Slaads... won't really have to call us names, I think . But everyone should have superior feelings towards us - being inhabitants of their planes, they will find them perfect, and by so common plane will be considered worse.

Instead of taking preconceptions from D&D and making the "planes" to fit them, why don't we simply create a cosmology of our own ? I think that my idea of the afterlife was interesting.

    I actually did, I think.
And MM, I really don't like the idea of all the planes being in the same universe. I don't see why you are so determined for Avbaroy to be completely different from D&D. We can change the layout and stuff, but the planes should remain the planes. I'm sorry if this seems like overreacting, but I will not enjoy ABR in the least if we try to make everything low fantasy. No matter what you do, ABR will be mainly under the D&D rules. The Material Plane is what you stay in unless you use some effect similar to Plane Shift. You shouldn't be able to just hop in a spaceship and end up on Mechanus or the Plane of Fire.
If I've misunderstood your post, then sorry. But your determination to shape ABR into a low-fantasy setting without even a hint of D&D is driving me crazy.

    Setting Building: Schitzotech in FI

Two organizations, the Society for New Schitzotech, and the Sons of Schitzotech.

The Society for New Schitzotech is most popular in those portions of the nation that wern't doing so well under the old regime. The SNS represents those Schitzians who openly embrace the UNoA. Oddly enough, they are not a government organization, but are enteirly grass-roots. They preach a doctrine of peace and openess towrds outsiders. The SNS works to incorporate forigners into Schizian society, and to prove to the world that Schitzotech is no longer a nation full of prideful isolationists. Of course, as with any organization, there is a whole spectrum of motivations within it. At best, members of the SNS are honestly trying to help Schitzotech become a full and helpful member of the UNoA, at worst, they are merely trying to increase their own power by sucking up to the UNoA and resculpting schizian society to fit their own intrests.

The Sons of Schitzotech is the opposite. It is the largest revolutionary group in the provence, and many of its members were once government officials or members of the Scarlet Legions. Their activities run the of civil disobediance, from using front organizations to organize non-violent protests, to all-out attacks on forigners and UNoA officials. Many higher level "Sons" are members of the ALF, and the two organizations are very closely linked. As a whole, the Son's are very paranoid, and tend to be well entrenched in urban areas, especially Skornbail and Technograd. At best, they are suspicious of the UNoA's true motives and are trying to mantain Schitzotech's national identity, at worst, they are sociopathic xenophobes looking for an escuse to crack skulls.

It depends. Most of them wouldn't mind the help, though some of the extremists would find the implication that Schitzotech could not liberate itself insulting.

Considering their nationalistic viewpoint, probably the same way one became a citizen of athens. Either your born one, or the main legislative body declares you one, the latter option being exceptionally difficult.

I've always wanted to ask you this: why exactly is Schizotec called a "province". Given their isolationist tendencies, I consider it implausible that they are part of a larger government, so why did you decide to call it a province ?

That would have been Lying's decision I think. Maybe it's left over from when they were part of the Empire of Man.

Hmm, perhaps they don't refer to themselves as "Schitzotech Provence" instead simply "Schitzotech", However, because of their isolationist tendancies, that never really spread beyond their boarders. Therefore, because all the maps had "Schitzotech Province" written on them, people continued to call it that.

That's stupid. Surely the cartographers would have changed their maps after more than a millennium following the fall of the Empire of Man. Let's forget about this thing and call Schizotec Schizotec. I'll go and modify a few bits on the wiki.

Okay, It's hardly ever reffered to by it's full name in-comics, so the inconsistancy won't be glaring.
