Default Vote-Up a vs. Thread Part 5: Competitors Nominations

O.K, so this should be new.

This is an experiment to find out what the playground would consider the best, most balanced, and most reasonable cross-franchise vs. combination.

To begin with, we need a vote on what board this should continue on.

To vote, simply post your vote for the current topic.

    Board: Structured Games
    Spoiler

    Media Discussion: 3
    Structured Games: 1 (Admin. Vote)=1,000,000,000,000,000

This thread has been taken to Structured Games by voice of an Admin, so it will stay there, unless moved again.

    Other(By nomination.):

The winner of Premise is Army.

Power level is the power of each side. You get two votes to cast, as this is an army battle, the lower power level will be the army, and the higher the single character or organization. If you want a combination between two levels, and if the are many more votes for one than for the other, I will put both votes into the lesser voted-for one. If you want an even army battle, put both votes into the same power level category. If the most voted for category has twice the number of votes as the second, it will be an even army battle.

Now to describe each power level: ()=Highly debatable.
Power Level Description Example D and D equivilant C.R.
Worst:The lowest of the low. Even us humans are not challenged by them. Ant, and below.n/a

Human: About equivalent to a common human. Orc, Any human, or human-like race/species from unarmed to current average military technology, elephant.1/6 to 5
Above Human:In general better than a human, but not much. Human with Star Wars/Trek technology, Bullete, generic superminion.6 to 10
Superhuman:Basically a generic superhero, or powerful monster. Characters from avatar, superheroes, Marth, The OotS, generic uberminion, Dalek, pop-culture ninja 11 to 20
God-Blessed/Invincible/Mastermind: Something that is untouchable by humans either through their power or skill. Superman, Godzilla, The Doctor, Link, Samus, Mewtwo, Sepheroth, Xykon, The Crab, (The Q), The Vorlons 21 to 60
Demigod:Something that is near god power, or a very weak god. Chuck Norris by most jokes, Fully cheesed up epic wizard, Tabuu, (the Q)61 to 150
God:Powerful enough to be considered a god. Most generic gods, Arceus, (Giygas) What geater dietys in D and D SHOULD be, pun-pun.151 to 9000

    Ah, I see now.
Though, as this is a (nomination for) a vs. thread, I think it should be in Media Discussions. As most Vs. participants usually are there.
Not to mention that some people who participate in those don't come over here in FB.

So technically the only way to properly do this would be to post it on all the boards, so everybody would see it. But I don't think the mods would like that.

    Edit : Also, isn't february 1st a bit of a short term?

I imagined that it would be unanimous for the MD board, and thus did not want to spend to much time on this stage.

I also did not simply put this there, as I though that someone might surprise me.

*cough* You don't need to vote. It goes in Structured Games, as such, it can be about anything, from media through gaming and so on. It can even be humorous if everyone wants it to be.

I'm not sure that your structure is simple enough, as you have too many levels of voting. You're also missing one, voting for the chairperson/deputy chairperson and/or committee to rotate the person(s) in power.

    Thanks for the move!
So, is this just supposed to be here, or can it go to Media Discussion if that is voted for?
It is supposed to be a serious thread, to find the best possible vs. idea.

I was planning on making a new thread for each level of two of voting, with most likely the next in Media Discussion.
as for the last part, I have no idea what you mean.
This is generally supposed to be a poll, not a game, so could you please clarify this to me?

I think this is way way too convoluted. At this rate it would take months to get a single thread.

The way I'd suggest to do it is to get a proposal thread, post up say a half dozen premises and the most popular one gets worked up into a full thread, posted up and then is left to be discussed for a week/two weeks. Most votes wins. The time while the thread is going on is used to find the next match up.

The pre stage is to weed out any obvious curb stomps, or yawnfests. It shouldn't dominate the proceedings as much as seems to be intended.

This thread, original intent was to be in either gaming or media discussion, but it is here now. As for the speed, most stages of voting are only planned to take a day or few, with some only a day.

I could assume that everyone would go for a battle, and a certain power level, and such, but this thread was also made to see if I would be wrong about these assumptions. I rarely go to Silly Message Board Games, and almost never Structured Games, so things might be different here from the rest of the board.

The premises should not take long unless there is something unexpected.
The rest of the votes, mostly should rely on nominations to a date, and then voting from the nominations.

There should hopefully be none of these "curb stomps, or yawnfests" that you speak of, as the voting should go by quickly.

I would like to repeat, that the entire purpose of this thread is to make the best combination in interest and debatability to have as a vs. thread on these boards.

If there is anything that I should know about this area of the forum that may directly affect this, could someone please post?

I would like to repeat, that the entire purpose of this thread is to make the best combination in interest and debatability to have as a vs. thread on these boards.
And I think you are going about it in an overcomplicated way. The way to get a good versus thread is to suggest an interesting match up. It isn't to go through a formula.

There should hopefully be none of these "curb stomps, or yawnfests" that you speak of, as the voting should go by quickly.
I wasn't saying there would be, I was saying that since the only purpose of a versus thread generation thread is to weed these out, then it is best to make it as simple as possible. You appear to have added as many stages as possible.

For example, Genres, franchises and sub franchises all appear to be unnecessary steps. Premise 2 is I imagine the specifics of the contest chosen, and so should be individually chosen for the contestants, rather than picked at stage two.

If it all gets played out, I'm sure I'll get involved since I do enjoy a good versus thread, but I would urge you not to add too much bureaucracy or formulaic stuff into the system, since it tends to draw out the creation of threads, put off newcomers and generally cause too much pain for too little gain.
