Achron, a Time Strategy game!
http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2009...time-strategy/
So yeah, it's an RTS that includes time travel. Time travel as in "Hey Josh, you know that army you have? I just killed the barracks you built them with five minutes ago, so they were never made. They'll stop having been born in a second."Avatar by K penguin. Sash by Damned1rishman.

Re: Achron, a Time Strategy game!
This looks like it would drive me insane; I don't even want to try and figure out how various paradoxes get resolved with repeated time waves resolving.

Re: Achron, a Time Strategy game!
I love this concept. Especially if I can pull off an All You Zombies maneuver and send a construction unit back to build the factory that built it.

Re: Achron, a Time Strategy game!
I suppose if the construction system is like "have a unit start building something, then get help from other construction units to build it faster while the original goes off and does something else", then yeah, I suppose it would be possible.
The strategy in one of the posts is insane.
I'm getting really into this gameBANG → !

Re: Achron, a Time Strategy game!
"Oh, hey, thanks for pointing out the weak point in my base defenses. I went back 5 and a half minutes and built a turret there first and then went ahead with my barracks." Of course, from the demo videos it looks like the actual results of these actions won't hit the 'present' for another minute or so, which is plenty of time to crush the enemy with your now non-existant army.. or keep waging past wars. Or future ones, since I'm pretty sure you can step the timebar forward past the 'present' marker too. Not as clear how to manipulate that to your advantage, tho.
If this thing turns out to be any good at all, there is one thing that can be said with absolute certainty: the replay videos will be awesome.

Re: Achron, a Time Strategy game!
This looks like so many kinds of awesome, though it also has the potential for lots of fail as well, depending on what kind of shenanigans you can do. I could see games coming down to who can make an infinite resource loop the fastest, and then turning that infinite resource loop into an infinite troop production, and then watching as the screen fills up with their troops.
Still, looks like it's worth a try at the least, and certainly a new concept.5e Homebrew: Death Knight (Class), Kensai (Monk Subclass)Excellent avatar by Elder Tsofu.

No, sorry, he's dead.
He's been killed by a Kobold 2 years ago that disapeared right after accomplishing his deed. You remind me of him.

Re: Achron, a Time Strategy game!
I'd also like to mention that this game makes my head asplode. If the tactics for this don't end up being cheese races, then games in this will be EPIC.
Still, any game with time travel is probably asking for cheese, so it'd be quite a feat so say the least if they manage to do this right.Last edited by AgentPaper; 2009-04-19 at 02:13 AM.

Re: Achron, a Time Strategy game!
And looking at their videos, it looks like they're trying to make themselves wacky-paradox resistant, at the very least. It looks like only about eight minutes of time can be traveled through, and then those events drop off the recorder, so you probably could only clone things for that amount of time; and if you spent five minutes cloning, then you'd only have three minutes remaining. Also, when looking at their cronoporting video, it looks like your duplicate army could disappear if the originals can't make it back to a cronogate in order to be sent back in time to create that duplicate army in the first place.
That said, this has my interest, although my sanity isn't sure if I'll be able to handle it.Spoiler

Re: Achron, a Time Strategy game!
Based on Achron's way of elapsing time... If you change the timeline by not going in the past the time you were supposed, we will experience a change exactly at this moment:
Now + 2 years/8 + (Time before you were supposed to leave and now)/8.
Those time wave effectively go 8 time faster than the timeline itself... But the change only happens if you don't travel back.. ARrgg...
If you happened to move back in time (in the previous timeline) BEFORE the assassination of John Connor, the timewave will even be longer to reach us..
