Re: Famous Avatars?
Hey, 0's keeps getting mentioned!
*proud*
Now would be a bad time to tell me that it's distinctively awful.
I have to start getting back to avatars.
Wait, no, I have to start getting back to having a life here first.
Anyways. All the ones I wanted to say have been mentioned. Though I might not have seen Sheep of Oblivion. And Leper Khan. And Spidermew.formerly known as xNadia
apologies for the confusion and inconvenience

Re: Famous Avatars?
I always liked your avatars Nadia Ever since what I believe was your first one in Vampires to your prom one that you have now.
The only problem with your current one is that the skirt is too shortAdrie, half elven bard. Drawing by Vulion, avatar by CheesePirate. Colored version by Callos_DeTerran. Re: Famous Avatars?
I believe Tempest Fennac's hasn't been mentioned yet. Also, The Randomizer.
And Lex-Kat too. Lexie has a monopoly on pixies.Last edited by Ashen Lilies; 2009-02-23 at 03:39 AM.

Re: Famous Avatars?
THANK YOU!
When I was thinking up the list, I thought "when we lost animated avatars, we lost one of the greatest ones ever", but I couldn't think of whose or what it was. Yes. Space-is-Curved. The still avatar is good--very good--but the animation, with stars and comets drifting around inside the body's outline, was a spectacular effect.

Re: Famous Avatars?
Huzzah I got one mention! I change avatars far too often to become memorable.
I has a list!
Jibjabs
Zeb
Supagoof
Llama
Mordokai
Dr Bath
They just stand out, for their consistency of use if nothing else.

Re: Famous Avatars?
Darnit, thought I answered this--oh, right, that was when it was my connection falling on its face, not the forum's.
No, I haven't, but it makes a cyclical appearance on the "I ought to discover what people are referring to" list. First ran across the word in a James Joyce short story, consulted the dictionary, filed it in my Cool Words to Use Later drawer, found a use.Last edited by Quincunx; 2009-02-23 at 06:20 AM.

Re: Famous Avatars?
So, even giant staring eyeballs have a phobia about being watched. I can exploit this--
Soothe this. I can soothe these fears.
Don't know if it matters, but since the point's been brought up, my book jackets as a whole are not nearly so memorable as avatars. With the avatars, even the forgotten ones come back to mind with the prompt of the name. With the book jackets, it's not so.

Re: Famous Avatars?
Hey! I made Spidermew the Erf(-ish) style one! *sniff*
This thread makes me happy as most people seem to be mentioning at least one avatar that I made. Not that this actually reflects well on me, as it is the concept rather than the artistry which makes these avatars memorable. Anyhoo, yeah.
Mad props for Collinmarc for designing my avatar, too. I should really put that back in my signature.
Djinn in Tonic has a brilliant avatar, as does Sampi and Adardam, Magioth's avatars were always memorable too. As are Illiterate Scribe and Anon. and on (the same person or something? You confuse me) despite the fourchan connotations.

Re: Famous Avatars?
I think I made Spidermew a avatar some time ago, and he wore it for some time too!
Though it wasn't as good as Baths erf-ish spidermew, not by a long shot.
It was that pokemon one....
Scratch that, that one I made for V Junior.....

Re: Famous Avatars?
Sorry, but I'm starting to think that this thread is starting to become a "Krush Thread" clone. It's another game of "I like yooou, and yooou, and yooou..." Didn't this game get old in kindergarten?
Pardon me for being a poor sport.
I have to say that of all the stand-outish avatars I see, the ones I recognize and enjoy the most are Player_Zero, Mordokai, and Kara Kuro.
Player_Zero because it's a skeleton with an afro. Duh.
Mordokai because it changes with the ongoing story. It makes my day when I see a new one up (despite the fact that the last few are the same picture, just with a different pose.)
Kara Kuro just because it's so darn cute.
@v That's sort of my point. People pick out the people they like, and the ones who don't get picked cry about it. Not really a fun game.Last edited by Neko Toast; 2009-02-23 at 09:36 AM.

Re: Famous Avatars?
D-D and Sneak used to have memorable avatars. Then there are all the usual suspects such as Dr Bath, Curly, Ikari, RHL, Serpentine, etc. Mr Saturn had a pretty memorable avatar style when he was around.

Re: Famous Avatars?
But it's not just about people they like. It's about avatars. Not even necessarily the best avatars, either—DIHAN is one of the best avatarists on the boards, but I still don't think his avatar counts as "famous" to me, despite its beauty and brilliance. And it is beautiful and brilliant. It's just about what stands out to you. If some people see it otherwise, well, it's not our fault, and it's not our fault that they feel left out.
That's how I feel, at least.
Hey, what's with all the hate! Smurfette is a cultural icon, thank you very much!

Re: Famous Avatars?
A while back, there was an avatar of an Alice in Wonderland carrying a bloody knife with a skeletal dog (cat, rabbit?) next to her; there were words written in blood too. I think it was by banjo1985—that was memorable. I only saw it once or twice, though, so I don't remember the details.
Mordokai's are memorable too, because they tell a story and have stunning artwork.Last edited by TRM; 2009-02-23 at 10:54 AM.

Re: Famous Avatars?
Serp's a bath's ones of course.
Lyinginbedmon's avatars also stand out very well.
Byt of course, we can't forget Djin and Death, Your Freindly Reaper.
Their avatars stand out a mile away.
