Romantic literature is not my favourite, to read or to analyse.

Yeah. We humans don't play well with others, and RPG settings have to gloss over our uglier side to put any civilization other than "human" in the game. When it comes down to there only being enough resources/jobs/land to support us or them, it's not going to be them.
Humans and other species getting along? THAT'S EXTRA HERETICAL! 40k has the best setting ever.

It's a little explicit to put up here, but there' a pretty funny picture of an Angry Marine dreadnought out there.

Yes, it is kind of sad, however, when faced with a common enemy, mankind shows the remarkable power to forget past grudges and differences to fight off said enemy.

Well, in my experience, most romances are written for people who don't have any romance in their lives and need something to fill that gap. In some cases, they're complete fantasy. And I personally prefer good fantasy.

Apologies to anyone who likes romance novels.

Well, it's probably the only RPG I've ever seen that runs close to humanity at the moment.
Also, it sort of just got drawn in as the argument/debate got slightly out of control.

Indeed. I guess now that this debate has gone too far, we need a new subject. How about pie that is on fire? Anyone like eating that? I know I do. Especially cherry pie.

Not a huge fan of the Romantic era myself. The Romantic poets have always struck me as people who just liked the sound of their own voice. No poem needs to be as long as they seemed to write.

Except Byron, he was a genius. She Walks in Beauty is one of my favourite poems.

Ok, I can get that one ...
She walks in beauty, like the night
Of cloudless climes and starry skies,
And all that's best of dark and bright
Meet in her aspect and her eyes:
Thus mellow'd to that tender light
Which heaven to gaudy day denies.

They had some very nice houses up in the lakes though. At least they could pick a good place to stay whilst spouting verbose poetry. I had to learn London off by heart. I have since forgotten it completely. Quite an achievement on my part!

This is true. My graduation ball was actually held in one of Byron's old houses, which brought me much geeky joy. I like to think he'd be happy with the thought of lots of people getting very drunk and doing lewd things in his home.

I envy your ability to forget the poetry you learned. I can still remember vast stretches of poetry by John Donne which I had to learn for my A-Level, and no amount of time passing seems to eradicate this drivel from my brain.

@dish: That's the one! A poem I'm happy to know off by heart.

I really, really want to see the following scene.

The sergeant collides with the Chaos Marine as both sides clash, unleashing waves of bolter fire into one another, chewing through the solid steel plates with hacks of their chainswords.

Suddenly, amidst the chaos, a boy pops up on a rock and screams, "STOP!"

The action ceases in the confusion.

The boy hops down, walking over to the entwined sergeants, a single tear running down his eye.

"Don't you see, you guys? We're all alike! See, you're a human too! You've got, you've got two eyes, and a nose, and a mouth, and a smile...just like us! Why can't we just be friends?"

    There's a pause.

    "He's right. Bless his heart."

The sergeant sniffs back a tear. "Friends?"

    "Friends."

The sergeant lifts the boy up onto his shoulders, and a ragged chorus goes up through the ranks.

    Why can't we be friends
    Why can't we be friends
    Why can't we be friends
    Why can't we be friends

The color of your armor don't matter to me
Let's set down our swords and live in har-mon-y

The sergeant turns to the kid, expression wary. "We can, uh, we can still kill the Eldar, right?"

"Oh yeah, totally. Purge the unclean!"

One shade the more, one ray the less
Had half impare'd the nameless grace
Which waves in every raven tress
Or softly lightens o'er her face
(Then it gets a bit soppy, but does include:)
And on that cheek, and o'er that brow
So soft, so calm, yet eloquent,
The smiles that win, the tints that glow
But tell of days in goodness spent

Edit: that's enough romantic poetry - we'll have to save Keats for next time - I've got to feed kittens.

I had to make a few alterations. This is Chaos we're talking about.

@Dallas: The upcoming live-action film based upon a popular Eastern inspired Nickelodeon animated programme? It just doesn't look very good. What with none of the main cast looking like the ethnicity they're supposed to be.

Edit: Well the blinking-blunking hell does spell check have 'Nickelodeon' in it, but not 'dystopia'.

The OOTS on Film submission deadline's already over?

Eh, well, I'm pretty confident in what I've already submitted. I do wish I'd remembered to do that Parson Dynamite poster, though...
