GLoG 20/XX: Twenty Times the Awesome

I'd hate to see what they'd do if they used a psychic's brain...

Remembering that Skrall-2 said he had no memory before the experiments started, DC assumes he has the memory of what happened during the experiments and heads out of this memory room.

This time he'll head to one of the padlocked doors. He pushes on it a bit to test how strong the door is.

The door seems fairly strong. So does the lock. One of those cliche, old fashioned giant iron padlocks.

DC, at this point, has sorted the doors into two categories:

Open: Mid-experiments/Post-experiments
Locked: Pre-experiments

He'd try pulling out a mental representation of his cannon and blasting the door down, but he doesn't want to risk damaging Skrall-2's mind. So he heads into another open room, hoping that the scientists might mention something about his memories.

Same point of view as the earlier memory, and the same room. It seems time has passed, as some of the robotic heads on the far wall have gone missing. And some are deactivated.

A scientist comes into view and starts examining Skrall-2's monitors, making notes on a clipboard. After a while, he shakes his head a little and lets out a sigh. Not good. No changes in this one. He moves on to another head.

Drelin would approve of these experiments, methinks.

Right, he's supposed to be dead... This must be...

He'll glance over at the wall to see if the original Skrall's head is there.

All of the heads look the same. And none of them are the design that DC would know. Seems this is just a testing phase, and they didn't want to use the final head design yet. Either that, or they didn't have it yet.

All of the heads are a simple design, not far off from the Terminator's skull. But not as scary looking.

No harm in looking.

DC heads out of this memory room, and into another of the open ones.

Same view. But even less heads visible.

Two scientists seem to be discussing something. Let's listen in.

A few of them have shown the characteristics we need.

The other one nods a little. Well, in that case, move those ones to the next phase and destroy the rest.

Well, couldn't we replace the minds back into their original bodies? I know we were keeping the bodies to use for amputees, but-

No, it wouldn't work. Yes, we could put the brains back in, but because of all the programs we have run them through, most of their memory is lost. So, it would accomplish nothing except fill the mental illness ward of the hospital.

I see. In that case, I will get right on it.

DC is fairly sure what the next memory would be-death.

So he withdraws from Skrall-2's mind, for now.

Okay... I might be able to do something, but it's risky. You still want to go through with it?

Uh...depends...what is it?

DC ponders how he's going to explain this. Well... See, your mind is a bit like a building-lots of doors. The memories you have are open-the ones you don't are locked. If I forced my way in, it might restore the memory, but it might have... Unpleasant... Side effects.

I see...well...um...you know what? Screw it. Go for it.

DC nods, then reenters Skrall-2's mind.

He's not going to use the mental BFG, though. Instead, he takes out (a mental representation of) his beam pistol and shoots one of the locks.

This was one of the smaller locks. First shot does obvious damage, but it isn't broke. Yet.

And then he shoots it again.

If this works without much of a hitch, he might upgrade to a representation of a certain gunblade. But not the cannon. Too much splash damage on that thing.

Lock breaks and drops. So far, no signs of any collateral.

DC will then open the door and head in to the room.

Door creaks, as it hasn't been opened in a while.

Sudden bright light. Not much can be seen right now. Panicked voices can be heard. Numbers being relayed. Sounds like a cart is rolling down a hall. Numbness all over. Things are starting to get in focus. A brightly lit hall. Doors flying by. Skrall-2 is laying on a hospital bed, being wheeled to the ER. A doctor and a couple nurses surround him. There's an IV running into his arm.

The doors are pushed open and the bed is rolled into position. Monitors are hooked up and turned on. Beeping mixes with voices in the air. The nurses run back and forth, grabbing things off shelves, handing things to the doctor, taking readings.

The view moves as Skrall-2 looks down at himself. There is a gaping hole in his chest.

What the...

DC waits to see if there's anything else to this room.

The door opens, and a man in a suit walks in. One of the nurses walks up to him and tries to make him leave. Can't really hear what they're saying. He holds up a paper. She reads it, and doesn't seem to like what it says. But whatever it was, it let him stay.

The monitor starts beeping slower. The whole room starts to get kind of fuzzy. The man in the suit seems to be talking with the doctor.

Slower. More fuzzy. The figure of the man approaches Skrall-2. Says something to him. Sudden bright light in his left eye, then his right.

Then, black.

And then DC heads out of the room again, then back out of Skrall-2's mind.

Did that do it?

Skrall-2 seems lost right now. He shakes his head a little, then looks at DC. That was...me...wasn't it? Dying...

Faust undeadtimes, presumably in the lobby since Butler let them inside.

DC just nods a bit.

Butler undeadtimes in the... training room I suppose. Cleaning up there.

Irene undeadtimes in the infirmary.

Nikolai undeadtimed as well, her hand possibly still held in Faust's.
"When...did we get inside?" She blinked, not seeming to recall.

Skrall-2 thinks for a moment. Then he shakes his head. I don't think so.

Runner is currently in the great room, watching DC and Skrall-2.

Butler let us inside, don't you remember? Faust says.

Nikolai suddenly flushed, remembering, and yoinked her hand from his gently.
"He...did, didn't he? And he asked me a few questions. Can't remember them for the life of me, though..."

Skrall-2 thinks for a moment. Then he shakes his head. I don't think so.

Runner is currently in the great room, watching DC and Skrall-2.

Do you want me to do more, or is that enough for tonight? I think doing it all at once might be too much based on how you reacted.

That and I have to deadtime soon.
