Re: Kerluddein (IC)
The captain of the hobgoblins suddenly spurs his horse on past Sylvia, shouting at her to stay in the column. He fails to stop after passing her, and a few seconds later slumps off his horse completely, which continues down the path and out of sight.

Re: Kerluddein (IC)
Helena rushes forward, refreshing her Shield spell before breaking the cover of the column, and kneels at the captain's side, checking for signs of life and any obvious wounds while wishing she had had the presence of mind to take even rudimentary first aid training.
If I can't take 10 on the Heal check, or if 11 isn't enough...

Helena
The captain seems to still be alive; he's burning up, in fact, making it even more obvious that he's still just with you. An arrow had been sticking out of his leg, but it appears to have snapped off in the fall, and you're not quite sure of how to safely get it out.

Re: Kerluddein (IC)
Knowing the captain's alive makes Helena feel a little better. Just a little. Her hands glow slightly as she attempts to heal him just enough for him to get around. Evil-natured or not, the captain probably does not deserve such an ignoble death, especially since he didn't decide to just gut her and her friends.
(using Lay on Hands, all 6 points if necessary.)

Helena
The captain's temperature dips a little (though still much higher than you'd expect), and the reforming flesh around his wound pushes out the arrow, but he doesn't move.

Renia
Help was at hand! Not immediately at hand, as Renia's running speed was not good in armor, but certainly it was on its way. Arriving a few moments after Helena Lay Hands Upon the Captain, Renia immediately sets to work trying to figure out why he's not walking again.
"Heal Check DC 15" - (1d20+6)[24] - Heal roll used instead to assess the state of the Captain.
Spoiler
"Cure Light Wounds" - (1d8+2)[8]
Well, that's what I would have done had Helena not decided to burn her Lay on Hands points for the day instead. It's not like I had a useless 'Comprehend Languages' spell prepared I could sacrifice, after all...:p

Gob stepped closer, hesitating "Can.. Can I help?"

Rummaging through your healer's kit, you pull out a herb you never thought you'd use and stuff it in the captain's mouth, forcing him to swallow. The temperature immediately dips, though he remains unconscious. As far as you can tell, however, he's in no more immediate danger.

Re: Kerluddein (IC)
Sylvia
Sylvia, reacting a bit late to be of use, sees things appear to be mostly in hand, and so she turns to the second in command. "Well, I suppose the chain of command has you in charge, now. Are we camping here while captain recovers enough to give orders, or do we need to tie him to the saddle, and tie his mount to one of the others, and continue on? He'll recover faster if we wait and tend to him, but I'm sure you've got pressing duties, and he is a soldier..." Sylvia turns her head just slightly "...and perhaps there is an option I missed. But you are the one in command now, correct?"

Sylvia, nods, and says "Yes, there is that." She then takes wing, following the horse at a casual pace until it slows down enough to let her approach, and she then attempts to coax it into coming back with her.
Spoiler
There's no particular threat, at the moment, so taking ten on handle animal, for a 17. It was a riding horse, and both general purposes of "Riding" and "Combat Riding" include "come", and trained tricks are DC 10, so that's expected to cover it, even if there's a bit of a penalty for it being trained differently than she might expect.
Sylvia: HP 21/21, AC 17 (touch 17, flat-footed 17), saves +6/+3/+11, Ki: 4/7
Patches: HP 13/13, AC 18 (touch 12, flat-footed 16), saves +5/+5/+1

"The one you're standing in. It has no name."
Sylvia
The horse slows down a short distance down the road, and while it isn't enthusiastic about being led, it comes back to the column of hobgoblins with you. The sergeant nods curtly at the question, then pushes past you and lifts the captain up onto his horse, strapping him upright in his seat with some of the riding tackle. With great ceremony, he removes one of the officer's pistols and shoves it into his own belt, before handing a short mace that he's carrying to one of the other hobgoblins. "Move on. The patrol continues. Mark six thousand and twenty-first pace as the point of attack."

Re: Kerluddein (IC)
Larin blinks. "No name? How can a country not have some kind of name? That makes no sense! How do you have diplomatic and trade relations with other nations if they can't refer to you by a specific name?"

"Indirect Addressing?" Renia suggests. "You know, as in "That Hobgoblin nation near the forest" instead of "The nation of So-and-so"..."Currently Running:

Sylvia
Sylvia joins the conversation. "Simpler still to refer to it by the current ruler's name. I'm not familiar with the current head honcho's name, so I'll call him 'Fred' for now, unless our escorts care to correct me, but saying 'I brokered a treaty with Fred', or 'Fred is under attack from our neighbors' works quite well. Until Fred's successor takes the throne, of course. Unless Fred's Successor is Fred Jr, Fred the second, or similar."

"There are probably a number of hobgoblin nations near forests, and then you get into an issue with two leaders with the same name. Not only that, do we know for sure that this is a hobgoblin nation and not one with a hobgoblin military?"

Re: Kerluddein (IC)
Sylvia
Sylvia continues the conversation. "Ah, but while it's likely that the great hobgoblin people have formed many powerful nations near forests... anyone wanting to refer to them has a much smaller number of nations that are bordering those discussing it, and thus, of immediate relevance to the speaker. While there may very well be a Fred-led Hobgoblin nation an additional three hundred leagues East, it's the one right next to you that you're concerned with in almost all cases, so simple context handles most of the rest."
