Alkonosts are said to be born from rare good-hearted harpies who sought redemption from the couatls. The couatls are said to have worked powerful magic to transform the harpies, purifying all evil from their heart and investing them with a divine spark. Alkonosts physically resemble harpies, but their faces are blessed with a beautiful countenance, and they are clad in rainbow-hued feathers, like a couatl. Though occasionally mistaken for their mean-spiritied kin, most Alkonosts are objects of reverance by the pious, and are seen as physical manifestations of the voices of the gods, though the birdfolk as a whole have no bond to a certain deity.

Spells
An Alkonost casts spells as a 4th level Favored SoulCD. They do not draw power from any particular deity, but rather, from the divine sparks granted to them by the couatls in ages past.

Typical Favored Soul Spells Known (6/7/4; save DC 13 plus spell level)
0th–detect magic, detect poison, guidance, mending, read magic, resistance; 1st–cure light wounds, divine favor, magic weapon, shield of faith; 2nd–aid, hold person, spiritual weapon.

Song of Paradise (Su)
As a standard action, a Alkonost may begin singing a song that lifts all worries from the hearts of those who hear it. The song requires her to concentrate, and thus each subsequent round she wishes to sing she must take another standard action to maintain concentration. All good aligned creatures that can hear an Alkonost’s song gain immunity to fear effects for as long as the Alkonost sings and for five rounds thereafter.
