    Default Who's more badass?

Okay, I'm having an ongoing argument with Uber_Drow (we're friend IRL) about this, so I figured I'd bring this online. U_D says Chuck Norris is the most baddass man in history, but I disagree. It is clearly Teddy Roosevelt.

    What's your opinion?
    Yup, I'm back

Roosevelt. He didn't succumb to asthma, he beat it up and left it on the curb to die. He took a bullet during an assassination attempt, and went ahead and delivered the speech before going to the hospital. If Roosevelt had done these things when the Internet was around, he'd be the one getting all the memetic badass attention.

Well, Mr. Norris was a world champion kickboxer. It makes him badass, but not the most badass man ever.

President Roosevelt was a good man, but he wasn't the most badass man in history either.

No, that honor my friend, goes to this man, and this man only.

Yep, Simo wins this argument, hands down, every time.

Of the original 2 thoguh, certainly Teddy wins. As has already been pointed out, Chuck Norris's accomplishments are largely fictional. In reality he's no more badass than Jean Claude Van Dam or Stephen Segal. Which is to say, badass, but not terribly so.

Roosevelt sent his black soldiers in first up San Juan hill. They did all the brave fighting and dying, and then the Roughriders rode in last to clean-up and take credit.
I appreciate much of Teddy's accomplishments, but Chuck Norris would eat him alive. Heck, Clint Eastwood as an old man would chew him up and spit him out... and he's an actor.

Since when do we measure badassery by who would win a fight? Sounds like neanderthal thinking to me. One may be able beat up lots of people, but still be a complete tool-, which, incidentally, Mr. Norris strikes me as. Badassery comes in many forms, of which physical prowess is a minor one.

Uh, care to source that? TR was in charge of a group of volunteers (the Rough Riders), and not a member of the regular army, which the "Buffalo Soldiers" (who I assume you're referring to) were, and therefore under the command of the regular army. TR had authority over only the RRs, though he did have a habit of requisitioning the best supplies for them, glamorizing the war and glory-hogging.

I don't consider badassness simply a measure of who would win in a straight-up fight, but an indomitable spirit, no-nonsense and ultra-masculine style.

Simo definitely wins, but Teddy was pretty damn badass. It's been said that Death had to take him sleeping, because if he were alive there would have been a fight.

I disagree with all of you! This guy is the most badass of all!

Why? Because, according to him "any officer who goes into action without his sword is improperly dressed", and going by this rule/law, he carried a freakin' claymore into battle (Along with his bagpipes and bow-and-arrows....)

Whats not awesome about that?! XD

Theodore Roosevelt was arguably the most successful American conservationist in the countries history. Making him clearly more badass than your snipers or TV Rangers.

To be fair that was one of Lee's movies, where he is the star and Norris is an antagonist.

Speaking of ridiculous historical figures Nathan Bedford Forrest started out as a private in the Confederacy during the Civil War. (despite being rich, and exempt from service) Ended up as one of the the highest ranking officers in the army. Most importantly was wounded 4 times, and had THIRTY horses shot out from under him. Went on to survive the war.

If we're just going to keep bring awesome war hero's into this, then....

Yogendra Singh Yadav - One of the 21 people in history to have earned the Param Vir Chakra, and also one of the 7 to have not died getting said medal.

Alvin York - took on a fortified machine-gun encampment guarding a German railroad, right after said machine-gun encampment killed his entire squad.

Audie Murphy - To many things to list, but off the top of my head, he jumped into a crippled M-10s, hopped in behind the .50 cal machine gun, and started killing everything in sight. Understand that the M-10 was on fire, had a full tank of gas and was basically a death-trap.

And he did this while beng five-and-a-half-foot-tall. And suffering malaria.

They even made a movie about him, which was the highest-grossing film Universal made, a record it held for 20 years until the making of Jaws. That's right, they actually needed a movie about a giant, man-eating, shark to top Audie Murphy's awesomeness.

    Beat. That

On the subject of Roosevelt's passing in his sleep, Vice President Thomas Marshall had this to say: "Death had to take him sleeping, for if Roosevelt had been awake there would have been a fight."

People need to realize that this thread isn't about the world's biggest badass (Andrew Jackson), just about who was better out of Norris and Roosevelt, and sorry Mr. Kickboxer, but you're no competition.

Theodore Roosevelt was actually as awesome as his actions and personality. While Chuck Norris's stunts were all fictional.

Besides, Bruce Lee killed Chuck Norris in The Way of the Dragon.

I think Jackson is another example of someone who was just batspoon crazy. Though, he would probably kick the crap out of most people despite living with a musket ball in his lung that caused him to cough up blood on occasion. Probably got it from one of his many duels... that guy just loved to fight.

While Simo Häyhä and Jack Churchill are pretty fraggin' hardcore, my vote still goes to the Viking at Stamford Bridge.

And I do apologize to all the civilized folk in the playground, but badassery does, by its nature, require the ability to trash bozos in brutal fashion. Had some 40th level bard bluffed Attila the Hun into going home and starting a pizza joint instead of rampaging across the world, that would have been pretty awesome and impressive, but it would not have been badass, unless the bard ended the speech by uppercutting Mr. The Hun and stealing his sunglasses in the same motion.

I'm going with Ted, although Simo is a major badass, if only because he STARTED a war, just so he could be the most badass man in it.

Then he fought robot Hitler alongside Edison and Lincoln.

Norris would, no offense to the man, get his ass kicked bad.
