    If you have an active metalworks and some mechanics, start building up "Large, serrated discs", and build weapons traps. You can fit ten discs into a single trap. Fill a hallway with them, and watch as it turns red.

    He said fun traps, not boring easy ones...

    Honestly, I'm at the point where I get bored of conventional traps... My current fortress (the one I will build as soon as I find a suitable site) will have the bare minumum of conventional traps... A few cage traps to spot ambushes early and so I can have a gladiator arena, but nothing more.

    Is there a way to perhaps save a preset setup for your dwarves, and such? That way I don't have to tediously allocate points to mining and skills everytime I start over?

    I spent half of it remaking and redoing my dwarves.

    Which reminds me, how do you delete worlds you don't want to use anymore?

    Were you on an island? Dwarven caravans will always arrive if you're on the mainland, but on an island that won't happen. Even on the mainland some places don't have access to elves, and I'm guessing the same goes for humans.

    Two words: Magma Cannon.

    When I get better at the game, I plan on making a water variant and using the two in tandem -- one firing north, the other south -- and designing a way to drop a 3x3 block of stone on the ramp leading into my fortress to prevent the accidental murdering of my own dwarves.

    I'll only murder *them* on purpose.

    Then I'll see what happens when the north fills with all the magma in the world and the south fills with all the water, and then the two of them mix. Obsidian world, anyone?

    Nyarg! I can't seem to build a jail right... I can designate a room from a metal cage, only the only when I hit j for justice the only option is "do not use for justice." I've got a captain of the guard and iron chains. Unfortunately, justice still says "0 of 6" cages and chains.

    *looks at the werewolf skulking about his base, then at a little spot that would work excellently as a pit...*

    I prefer using chains so the dwarves can still sleep on a bed anyway. 1x3 prison cells can look nice, give them some nice things to admire and hopefully prevent a tantrum spiral there.

    Flash required to watch it, but eh. Basically someone modded the raws to increase the natural temperature of cats, and filmed the resulting "nuclear" catsplosion. Both kinds are tasty, but this one was more fun to watch. "SeverOnBreak" allows their body parts to go flying when they die, I think this spreads the heat around more.

    Is there a way to set it so that only military dwarves can go in an area, or something? It's making me incredibly nervous that for some reason idle dwarves like to tour my archery range when it's in use.

    With a little text editing, you can tame and ride possibly anything...

    Edit: I think restrictions like that -- for dwarf access rights -- are in the Orders menu or something like that.

    At the moment, you cannot get dwarves to ride anything. That will probably change in the next couple versions, but for now nothing going.

    Indeed...

    Why is it I can never find a good spot... Only good one I found since redownloading was the one that got errored.

    All I want is... A river... NOT brook, but an actual river. Magma pipe. Flux. Sand. Savage neutral or savage evil area. And I'd LOVE it if it was a cold or temperate map, but I could live without that...

    The land needs to have a large enough flat area, although I'd prefer it to not be entirely flat (I could definatly live with that though)...

    Can never get the essentials all together =/

    Well, a lot of rivers (in fact, most of them, as far as I've seen) are in sand, and they have a tendency to run next to mountains...

    Have you tried custom-generating a POCKET-sized world? I generated one an hour ago (and I'm already halfway done with the 1st floor wall of the chapel of death ), and the map ended up in three regions, with, like, 4 settlements I could see. Half of them elven...

    One day, I plan on starting under Elves. And use wood just as much as I tend to use wood. That'll show 'em.
