No, nothing can bring a guy who died of old age back from the dead. Lying waits until he is close to death, then kills himself. He thus activates his--much younger--clone, and he continues the cycle. We simply haven't seen Lying for more than a year.

I certainly do not have an elderly relative with any stage of baldness, and Lying is no different. He'll get wrinkles the longer he doesn't respawn but he isn't going to go bald any time soon.

For the record, he's respawned (Activated a clone following death) 573 times in the past 500 years.

If you need an explanation beyond simple genetics, maybe regeneration helps.

[annoying nit-pick]Dying of old age is impossible. You die of age-related diseases/problems. (It's not the fall that kills you...)[/annoying nit-pick]

So sometimes, Lying gets really old and has a cardiac arrest. Or one of his important organs fail and he can't function. Than he's brought back to life by his clones.

Further for the record: Lying doesn't wait until he's an old geezer before he voluntarily kicks the bucket, that death count should let you know it's a yearly event for him (Every August 9th, in fact).

He only looks as old as he does now because he didn't use the clone method while he was raising his daughters (Try explaining the corpses of daddy...)

EDIT: I've read a few spells over the d20srd. If human physiology is followed, biological immortality is ridiculously easy to attain. Just cast remove disease and regeneration regularly, and age-related problems (organ failure, diseases, etc.) are gone.

No wonder why D&D implemented the nonsensical "you die of old age".

By the way, how advanced will the weapons in FI be? I mean, are they going to be industrial revolution-scale or modern day firearms, or somewhere in the middle? Thinking of that because I am planning to do gunslinger-y character to FI.

More like in the middle. Rifles, shotguns and revolvers are the main used weapons, since muskets are outdated and automatic firearms haven't been invented yet.

No-one uses swords and other hand weapons any more, except for some backwater nations.

    .
Odd, since Grim and co. in M.E.R.C will be using lot of close-combat weapons including swords, glaives and morning stars. Oh well, I guess those are just because they are good with them, not for throwing or any other such stunts which always work in movies

Revolvers sound good next to two other options, so I guess I will run with them. Of course, older pistol or two might crop up just for style reasons

I thought Automatics had been invented (at least in Schitzotec), but are only used by the elite UNA millitary, with the Resistance having a few badly maintained pieces.

Should we pick a Time Period for the Tech Level, let's say WWI or so.

Close combat weapons are not very useful when your opponent has a shotgun.

Unless of course you attack from behind or have no ammo left.

Alright, so any real automatics are going to be bulky, crew-serviced things.

There are some more advanced weapons, but they are only made for the higher ups in the UNA. For example, UNIA Black Ops or Elite Naval Marines/Peacekeepers can probably get accsess to a few handheld Automatics, but even then probably on a mission-by-mission basis. Most people are probably unaware that Handheld Automatics exist, so when they hear a group of Peacekeeper Elites (Armed with Modern-level Assault Rifles) took out five times their number in Terrorists (Armed with WWI-Era Revolvers), everybody things "WoW! The Peacekeepers are Amazing!"

    Are we forgetting the spellcasters?

With such specialised spells like "Protection from Arrows" (Which incidentally works just as good with shuriken and probably most bullets) melee weapons may still see usage as a countermeasure.

Which is why the elite have automatic weapons, those will pierce through Protection from Arrows like a hot knife through butter.

Regular grunts probably have a bayonet in case of a spellcaster attack, but a spell caster that can resist even basic rifles with Protection from Arrows probably is so high level enough that they're enough of a threat to necessitate elite Peacekeeper (or maybe even Navy) intervention.

No they wouldn't. Protection from Arrows grants DR 10/magic against ranged attacks, which will absorb much of what a handgun, automatic or otherwise, puts out (2d6 according to the D&D DMG and d20 Modern Core rulebook), and around half of the output of a rifle or machine gun (varies from 2d8 to 2d12).

The spellcaster's wouldn't be immune, but they wouldn't fall as easily as a non-caster.

But any character that even borderline follows the D&D rules (Like Lying, though that hardly matters with regen) will be a significant counter to any firing squad.

No, I'm upset because guns aren't represented as they should be. Note that the ALF too has access to guns, and sometimes even better ones than the majority of the UNA.

I'm no bullet expert, but here's how guns should be properly represented in D&D in my humble opinion:

    UNA Standard Issue Rifle
The SIR has a firing rate of 2 bolts per round. When firing the rifle, make a ranged touch attack. If it hits, the target must make a DC 10 + )wielder's attack bonus) fortitude save every round or fall to -1 hit points, but is stable. Every round, the DC increases by 5.

If the wielder scores a critical, the target must make a DC 15 + its own level or die instantly instead of falling to -1 hit points. The DC increases normally each round, but the target falls to -9 hit points instead of dying.

A Cure X wounds spell cures the target as if he was at 0 hit points, but he must still make fortitude saves every round unless the bullet is removed (a DC 20 heal check) or a heal/regeneration spell is applied.

A Protection from arrow spell counts the damage as 10 + wielder's attack bonus.

There are no published rules for UNA Standard Issue Rifles.

And it's not like ABR follows the D&D rules. Do you roll to hit when you picture your character attacking someone ? No.
