It sounded like something they would do (mot of the shoes with shoe lacs I've seen are running shoes which means athletes use them and thus there is a connection) and since I had not heard the word "Aglets" then I didn't think it was wrong.

Personally, I liked the softer green eyes more. He seems like he'd have a highly feminine personality, and I think the eyes added to that.

Plus red eyes are so cliché for bad guys.

Sure. Boo Radley of To Kill a Mockingbird was albino and an agoraphobe. He also saves the protagonist and her brother's lives. And gave them a variety of trinkets.

Yes, but that was because he spent most of his life indoors, not because he genetically lacked pigments. So he probably didn't have red eyes.
