So what're we left with? Orks, Necrons, Tau, Witchhunters, Daemonhunters, Tyranids and Dark Eldar I think. The last one or Daemonhunters, I am anticipating will have the lowest points cost for a full-sized army, but need we worry about the Chapter Codices - Blood Angela and Dark Angels?

    I call Daemonhunters!

Who would have thought this could be fun. Go typo induced inspiration!

Fun fact, replacing the maxed tacticals with maxed biker squads in a marine list actualy makes it cheaper due to the transport. and you would need to get a captain with comand squad as wel.

    Still talking about Guard...

If I added Commander Chenkof, Captain Al'rahem, gave all the Conscripts Send In The Next Wave, and added Knight Commander Pask to a Leman Russ, I could increase my total by 550 points (as I'd lose the grenades and power fists that I'd otherwise get).

I also neglected to take Regimental Advisors, so I should add 240 points onto the previous total.

Replacing two Bodyguards with Nork Deddog would add another 80 points.

Dropping a Veteran with a Plasma Gun to replace him with Colour Sergeant Kell would add 70 points. Replacing the two Company Commanders with Lord Castellan Creed and Colonel 'Iron Hand' Straken would add 115 points.

Therefore my total with special characters included is 23794+985=24779.

    Guard max points: 24686.5±92.5

Okay, here are the Tyranids. Sorry for not writing all of the biomorphs down, but it would have been simply too much work. And yes, I've calculated the maximum costs for each Tyranid species to figure out which ones can be the most expensive. It's not my fault it invariably end up to be the Warriors.

Thank you, Serlahc, for beating me to it.
I was very nearly finished with my write-up after much head-scratching and rewriting, and then discovered that the Wargear page of my Codex is missing and I had no idea how much I was allowed to spend

I'm betting it will be lowest, with Daemons in second.
You could be right - unless Orks go horribly, horribly wrong, there's no way that Witchhunters will be less than 6,000 (They might make up half of that with Land Raiders alone....)

If Forrestfire is doing Tau, that leaves Orks, Witchhunters and Dark Eldar to go!

Edit: Orks and Witchhunters to go. This is turning out to be more interesting than I had expected, least of all because a full Regiment of Imperial Guard will cost more than their next two nearest competitiors combined:

Correction, a full Company of Imperial Guard (with some addons)... a Regiment would have at the very least three of these...

Orks will probably cost most with grotsnik in it as every model can then take a 5points equipment and orks have a lot of models. And ofcourse ghazghkull since he is the most expansive and allows for a unit of meganobs to count as troops.

EDIT: then again with wazdakka bikers become troops...

Use more Nob Bikers. Instead. Use Warbosses to get two as Troops.

    1070 Points
9x Nob Bikers; Stikkbombs, Power Klaws Twin-Linked Shootas, 'Eavy Armour, Bosspoles, Waaagh Banners and Ammo Runts.
Painboy; Bike, Stikkbombs, Grot Orderly, 'Eavy Armour, Bosspole, Waaagh! Banner and Ammo Runt
    Cybork Bodies

Every army should have five of these bad boys; Makes 5350 points just from Nobs. Get more.

I ordered about 1000pts of BFG chaos some months ago. Among them four plastic cruisers. One of them was a miscast so I emailed them about it and was send a new one, in fact they are boxed per two cruisers so I was send a replacement and one extra. All is good so far right?
Today in the mail, a box with two chaos cruiser boxes, that’s four chaos cruisers and the invoice puts them as free, so I amuse they are replacements… wtf?

Me and a friend decided to split the cost for the "Assault on Black Reach" package thing, he plays orks and i've yet to begin. So here is what i found out i could have. Please correct me if i'm wrong.

    Spacemarine Captain 100p
+ Terminator armour and combi blaster and digital weapons= 55+=155

    10 tactical spacemarines 160p
+ plasma gun and lascanon for one marine each, and replace seargents bolt pistol with plasma pistol. =35+ = 195

    5 terminators with one assault cannon ( + 30 ) = 230p

    1 Dreadnought ( 105p ) replace storm bolter for heavy flamer. ( 10+ ) = 115

    Total = 695.

Now I haven't read all the rules through yet. But how good does that look?
Considering buying one pack of something else, for around 40$ maybe. But don't know what to get. Another tactical squad?

Yes, you need another unit of Troops (Tacticals or Scouts) for a legal list. Also, what's a "combi blaster?". And isn't the base cost of 10 tactical marines 170 points?

You basically need another tac squad. A base army needs 1 HQ unit and 2 Troop units. I know that came like that in the set, but you only have 1 HQ, 2 Elites, and 1 Troop.

Do keep in mind that the set doesn’t include a terminator captain. Nor a assault cannon for the terminators. The tactical squad in it comes equipped with a flamer and a missile launcher so you would need to buy a tactical squad to get a plasma gun and lascanon.
The dreadnought comes equipped with a stormbolter rather then a heavy flamer.

Pretty much all of that is WYSYWIG (what you see is what you get) a rule in 40k that says a model needs to be equipped with something to use it. Tough among friends that rule could be waved.

I suspect that Black Templars would be also very expensive, being able to take Land Raider Crusaders as transports for every HQ, Elite and Troop unit.

I did not know what the various units came equiped with.. But I need to buy a terminator captain or what? And another tactical one. What's the good about scouts ( I know I should just read the main rule book but don't have time around now. )

Black Reach comes with a Power Armored Captain, 4 Terminators (1 sergeant with power sword), 10 Tactial Marines (flamer, missle launcher, sergeant), and a dreadnought (multi-melta, dreadnought close combat weapon, storm bolter)

If you wanted a Terminator Captain, you'd have to buy one.

Scouts can Infiltrate, giving them a much better deployment on occasion, and they can be equipped with sniper rifles, which can be a big pain for the enemy.

Also, it should be said that the main rule book will not tell you the advantages of Scouts (nor the beneficial special rules of your other troops). You need the Space Marine Codex for that.

Not entirely sure why you'd want to, though, unless you want him to accompany a deep striking unit of Terminators. As he has the iron halo, artificer armor is just as good, at less than half the point cost.

Well, if you were playing that attacking side in a Planetstrike match having your lord able to assault the turn he deep strikes in wouldn't be something to just dismiss.

Other than that, though, I pretty much agree (even though I'm really a heretic anyway )
