Devan pauses at the door. "No clanking armor? Nevermind, then. Allow me to fetch my mace, just in case. When are we heading out? I will need a while to meditate on this if it can be spared."

[Mahtobedis]

"Seeing as we have an entire week and we still need to gather information I don't think we are in any rush. Besides it would look suspicious if we're all tailing him. I think we should set up some shifts on watching his house."

[Tyrael]

Garrett

"We have a week, so there's no rush," Garrett answers. "Ideally, I'd like to spend tonight simply observing the place, perhaps tomorrow night as well if it's bigger than we expect. We'll study the habits of the household, and pick a night of the week when the fewest people are around."

[Mahtobedis]

"Jinx" Fitz snickers

[Tyrael]

Garrett flashes a sardonic grin from under his hood. "Great minds..." he mutters.

[JT Jag]

"I understand. Allow me to pray for an hour before you go, for there are a couple things that I would like to give you for your stakeout. Just in case."

He walks over to a prayer pad off in the corner, kneels on it and goes silent.

[Quietus]

"So, let me get this straight.", Gareth says, after taking a moment to consider. "You want me, a Paladin myself, to investigate an individual associated with an organization founded by my peers.. and to assist in stealing information from them? That's a bitter pill to swallow, Torre.. if I didn't know you were doing this for a good reason, then I would have to stand against you. However, since you're doing this only to protect the Order from a potential threat, I can agree to lend my aid - under two conditions."

"The first..", he says, turning to Garrett, "Is that nothing is stolen beyond the information on those documents. I will not be associated with a petty theft." Turning his attention back to the group as a whole, he continues, "The second, is that if things do go poorly, any combat we are forced to perform remains nonlethal. Any guards that Governor Tarkin has hired are only doing their jobs, that shouldn't cost them their lives. To that effect, Torre, would you happen to have any saps I might be able to purchase? I'm better with my sword, but it's much more difficult to land blows that only hinder, not kill, with a blade."

So far Nemal as observe the discussion calmly, when the Paladin speak, Gareth if he remember right he decid to speak.
"While I'm no Paladin I must agree with our new comrade here, we shoulnd't kill unless we don't have any choice in the matter."

I should have mentioned this sooner... the crystal does emit massive amounts of light, but it's completely silent when used.

Torre: "Saps.. yes, if you wish. We can do better, however. We will provide each of you with a practice version of your weapons of choice. We are pleased at this, since there is a chance we are wrong, and unnecessary bloodshed would be... unfortunate."

Practice weapons are -2 to hit and -1 to damage, and all damage they do is nonlethal damage.

The thief frowns at the paladin. "Who says you have to 'associate' yourself with us at all? I'm not hearing any particularly compelling reason to drag you along, especially if you're unwilling. If you don't like it, you can stay behind," he suggests coldly. "The entire point of this is to steal things. If you don't like stealing things, don't come along on a thievery mission in the first place."

"That being said, you do have a point in that we don't want to be killing anybody. It's not about morality, it's about the fact that dying people tend to scream, and screams will blow our entire plan out of the water."

[Quietus]

"Whether I agree with the methods of what we need to do or not, I see the importance in the act as well. And if things do come to a head, you may find that having someone trained in the art of diplomacy may come in handy. I'm certainly not as sneaky as some, but you would be remiss to assume that I am of no use whatsoever. My issue is with the stealing of things OTHER than the information needed to confirm the Order's suspicions, that is all. I wouldn't want to hear about silverware and jewelry missing after I'd helped to procure a copy of these papers."

Garrett's comment about killing being an issue of expedience, rather than morality, gets a decidedly annoyed glare from Gareth, but the Knight keeps his mouth shut with regard to that, apparently choosing to pick his battles. The thief had agreed to no killing, even if his reasons for doing so weren't particularly palatable. "This will be an interesting mission...", Gareth thinks to himself, "Gods, give us strength."

[Mahtobedis]

"Um if it is all the same to you all I would rather not throw any punches."

[Nebuchadnezzer]

"Hmm," said the monk. "Let us try to avoid any unnecessary attention. However, when it does come to violence, please do not be as... hesitant."

[Tyrael]

Garrett

The thief frowns at Gareth. "What use are you, then? Diplomacy and clanking armor....anything else? Actually, who are you? Come to think of it, who's everyone? I think some introductions are in order all round. I'm Garrett."

[Mahtobedis]

"You already know me, Fitz."

[JT Jag]

Devan remains in meditation off in the corner, where he has been for a good 25 or so minutes now. He does not respond.

[Nebuchadnezzer]

"Haschel Brahms," said the hooded monk. "A friend."

Torre smiles slightly, and turns to leave.

"I will leave you to make your plans. It is now an hour past Fourth, and your quarry normally works at the Governor's mansion until Fifth. If you need me, I am not hard to find."

With a final glance at each of you, he leaves, closing the door behind him.

"I hardly think that a chain shirt qualifies as clanking armor. To answer your question, I am Sir Gareth Mordred, heir to the Mordred family fortune, noble by birth and Paladin by choice." By the way he presents himself as he speaks, it's clear that Gareth believes himself to be quite important, holding his station in high regard.

"As to what good I am, as has been noted, I am an able diplomat. As a Paladin, I am also trained well in the use of a sword, quite capable of defending myself and others when the situation calls for it. Moreso than your average thief, especially. I am also, of course, empowered by the Gods of Good and Law to spread their cause in this world, and strike at injustice wherever I may find it... which of course, brings us here." With a sweeping motion of his hand, Gareth indicates the monastery itself, and through it, the situation they've been placed in. "Perhaps my skill set doesn't lend itself well to breaking and entering, but I doubt that the monks would have called me here if they didn't feel my skills would be of use. As much as I dislike the idea of working with a thief, I assume the same of your presence, and in this I defer to the wisdom and judgement of the Order, rather than acting of my own accord."

In an effort to dispel the tension in the room, Nemal decid to intervene.
"It's a pleasure to meet a Holy warrior like yourself"
He turn toward the rest of the group.
"As for myself I'm named Nemal and I'm an initiate of the Druidic art, I think that my talent with nature will be usefull. This is Blair my companion and while he doesn't particullary look like much, I'm sure that you will all get the occasion to see him in action sonner or later"

OK my scanner isn`t working, I`m going to get a friend to scan the maps in.

Basically, the Monastery is in the West city. Across the river is the richer district, including the Mage Tower by the North bridge, and the Governor`s Mansion near the South Bridge.

There is a tunnel leading from a secret trap-door in the floor of the monastery`s library. It travels under the river into an inn on the other side, halfway between the mansion and the tower.

This is how you were brought into the monastery and you all have rooms at the inn to support your cover.

There are the two stone bridges over the river, and the city is surrounded by a 40`wall, on three sides, but the wall on the West side has been removed.

"So now that instructions are over with shall we get the business of who is going to scouting out his house when?"

Devan finally rises from his prayers. The direct contact with his god has suffused him with an invisible yet undeniable presence in the room.

"My apologies for not introducing myself to the rest of you earlier. My name is Devan Fehr, and it's a pleasure to serve with you as a colleague in this holy mission."

The thief quietly facepalms. First a noble paladin, now a holy mission? This can't get any worse. Do I really have to work with these people?

Garrett shakes his head. Since the monks are the ones holding my purse-strings, I guess I don't have a lot of say in it. I just hope they aren't too much of a liability to work with.

He looks up, clearly still grumpy, but sticks to business. "Good idea, Fitz. We can have our more reputable folk--" his voice carries the sneer that his hood conceals. "--take the day watch, while the rest take the night watch. So that'll be Devan, Nemal and Sir Gareth for group 1, and myself, Fitz and Haschel for group 2. Group 1 will operate from Second to Fifth, and Group 2 will operate from Fifth to Second again. I'll let each group split up the watches in their timeslots as they see fit.

Sound good?"

"Understood," said the monk.

"I guess I had better get what sleep I can before tonight"

I guess we're going to do some preliminary observation of the target, and the particulars of said target's daily routine. Not to mention that perhaps we would set about acquiring information regarding the target's estate.

Yep, that's our plan of action. Observe the dude, find out his daily routine, watch his house, observe anyone else in the house, etc, etc.

As Nemal and Devan each introduce themselves, Gareth offers handshakes, listening to Garrett's suggestions on how to split up the groups. It certainly wasn't the most elegant of situations, but it did make sense - Garrett's group was to be the one more accustomed to shady dealings, it was more likely they would be used to working in dim situations. Open daylight suited Gareth just fine. The thought of leaving thieves to watch over such things left him with a knot of discontent in his stomach, but he forced himself to ignore it.

The comment about his group being the the more reputable one, however, did bring a smirk to Gareth's lips. With a nod, he agrees, "I suppose that sounds like a decent plan, to begin with. I propose that we use this monastery as a staging ground, returning to it after our shifts in order to share any information we manage to procure, and to make sure any last-moment changes to the plan are known by all. Since we have only two hours left in our shift before our more questionable companions begin theirs, I suggest we travel together while we observe this Governor, that we might get to know each other better in the meantime.", Gareth suggests to Nemal and Devan, taking only a moment to glance in Garrett's direction when he mocks the thief's previous emphasis.

Yep, that seems to be where we're headed. If no one's got other ideas for the plans, or has objections, then I'd think it would be safe to move forward.
