Re: The Second Great War IC
SpoilerHe sounds like me. I'd be so nervous of falling in the hole, I'd actually get faint... and fall in the hole.

"Take heart, friend," the monk said. The smile on his face was warm. "I promise that I will not let you come to harm."

I'll assume you're taking 20 on all silent rolls. So we'll say you're all now down on the floor, and about half an hour has passed since you entered the building.

Re: The Second Great War IC
SpoilerHALF AN HOUR passed since we entered? Jeez, we could have accomplished the entire mission in that time!
How about we move out of the room, hmm?
Garrett
The thief moves quietly towards the door. After putting his ear to the door, he eases it open carefully and pokes his head outside.Last edited by Tyrael; 2009-08-11 at 09:11 PM.

Re: The Second Great War IC
SpoilerWell, you had to wait for Fitz to make his way up and across... at least half an hour. It's probably just before Midnight.
You hear nothing through the door. After opening it, you see that you are in a narrow hallway running crosswise across the house. At the end of the hall on the right appears to be the top of the stairs. There are two sets of doors, one of them (near the stairs) is larger and has a double door, and there is a single door opposite the one you just came out of.
The hallway is lit by a trio of candles at the far end of the hallway. Light also trickles out front underneath and between the double doors.

Re: The Second Great War IC
Garrett
Moving with deathly silence, the thief eases over to the door across from his current one. Keeping an ear out down the hall for approaching footsteps, he listens at the door and tries the handle. If unlocked, he eases it open gently and pokes his eye inside.

Re: The Second Great War IC
You hear nothing, and the door is unlocked.
This room is long and narrow (I'm assuming you used your lantern). There is a window at the far end, and simple furniture including a narrow bed, wardrobe and a bookshelf. There is a small money purse on top of the bookshelf. There is also a belt hanging on a hook with six throwing knives of unusual, evil-looking make. Neither of you recognize them.

Re: The Second Great War IC
Garrett
The thief's eyes light up. "Hello, what have we here?" he whispers to himself. Creeping forward into the room, he stares down at the belt of knives. After scrutinizing them for a moment, Garrett reaches out and takes the belt, looping it securely through his equipment harness. He looks longingly at the money pouch. Maybe on the way out...coins tend to jingle a bit, and I don't want to leave anything up to chance.
"Fitzy," he whispers as he's examining the knives, "Go take a look at the bookcase. See anything likely?"

Re: The Second Great War IC
Fitz creeps up to the book shelf closes his eyes and mutters a few words while waving his hand in a half circle in front of him.
SpoilerI am casting detect magic. If I detect the illusion spells again hopefully I will be able to get a better idea of where they are. I am also hoping to see if there is any magic in the book shelf or those wicked looking daggers. Nothing is distracting me so unless something changes I will concentrate on the spell for the full 18 seconds. You will be part of my achievement.

Re: The Second Great War IC
There is no magic on the windows, one book on the bookshelf glows with Evocation, and the knives have a hint of Abjuration which even with the spell you can only detect when you examine them closely. You sense no other magic within the room.

Re: The Second Great War IC
As Fitz returns to the book case he whispers to Garrett.
"Those knives have a very slight hint of abjuration"
Once at the book case he studies the book which was enchanted with evocation very carefully taking a few minutes to study it.
SpoilerI know I don't usually take 20's to do things but in this case I will. I am attempting to use spellcraft to identify the spell that was cast on this book. My instincts tell me that the book is trapped. You will be part of my achievement.

"Abjuration is usually used to create protection spells. Things like barriers and wards. Although it is also used to banish and dispel other spells too. For example...."
Fitz rambles on quietly about abjuration spells as he attempts to figure out what spell was cast on the book. You will be part of my achievement.

SpoilerI'm at work and don't have the link to your character sheet here. What's your roll, taking 20?
For that matter, everyone: from now on even if you say you're taking 20, please provide the actual "roll" - much appreciated :)

Re: The Second Great War IC
Fitz mutters
"Now why would they put a fire trap in a building made almost completely out of wood? That is just asking for something bad to happen. And why would they trap the book to begin with."
SpoilerSo are there any marking on the book to identify what the book is?Last edited by Mahtobedis; 2009-08-12 at 02:09 PM.

The book appears to be some kind of political writing (as are many of the books on the shelf).

Re: The Second Great War IC
Garrett
The thief shrugs. "Fine by me." As he heads out of the room, he takes one last longing look at the money pouch. So tempting... Ah, to hells with it.
"Here." Scooping up the pouch, he tosses it to Fitz. "Hang onto this. What Sir Tightwad doesn't know won't hurt him." He flashes a grin in the darkness.
Creeping outside the room, Garrett pauses for a moment in the upper hallway, listening, and then creeps silently down the hall towards the top of the stairs, peering down the staircase.

Re: The Second Great War IC
Fitz catches the coins, quickly pockets them, and follows after Garrett.
SpoilerBy the rules I don't feel comfortable spamming taking 20's since that seems somewhat abusive to me so I will simply roll and pray for the best. Hide (1d20+3)[16] move silently (1d20+3)[7] so I am hiding well but not moving too quietlyLast edited by Mahtobedis; 2009-08-12 at 04:12 PM.
