@Nameless: Well, just that it's been about eight months since I've done any shipping. Of course, that doesn't mean I actually have any ideas, just that I feel the urge to do it . . . . .

    Inspiration, you say?

How about love at first sight, but one that is hotly denied? Over the years, they grow further apart, and the distance only makes their hearts grow closer. As the years pass, he becomes a successful businessman, and she a famous actress, and they collect news clippings about each other's lives. They discover one day that a person in the world has so much information about them, and go to confront them in rage, only to find it is each other! After so many years apart and their hearts so closely entwined, they finally realize the truth, and embrace the love they have denied for over 15 years!

Because while I have confidence in myself as a writer, I don't think I know the forumers well enough to properly attribute them to a story. That, and laziness.

Once upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered weak and weary,
Over many a quaint and curious volume of forgotten lore,
While I nodded, nearly napping, suddenly there came a tapping,
As of some one gently rapping, rapping at my chamber door.
Tis some visitor, I muttered, tapping at my chamber door -
    Only this, and nothing more.

Ah, distinctly I remember it was in the bleak December,
And each separate dying ember wrought its ghost upon the floor.
Eagerly I wished the morrow; - vainly I had sought to borrow
From my books surcease of sorrow - sorrow for the lost Lenore -
For the rare and radiant maiden whom the angels named Lenore -
    Nameless here for evermore.

And the silken sad uncertain rustling of each purple curtain
    Thrilled me - filled me with fantastic terrors never felt before;
So that now, to still the beating of my heart, I stood repeating
Tis some visitor entreating entrance at my chamber door -
Some late visitor entreating entrance at my chamber door; -
This it is, and nothing more,

Presently my soul grew stronger; hesitating then no longer,
    Sir, said I, or Madam, truly your forgiveness I implore;
But the fact is I was napping, and so gently you came rapping,
And so faintly you came tapping, tapping at my chamber door,
That I scarce was sure I heard you
    - here I opened wide the door; -
    Darkness there, and nothing more.

Deep into that darkness peering, long I stood there wondering, fearing,
Doubting, dreaming dreams no mortal ever dared to dream before
But the silence was unbroken, and the darkness gave no token,
And the only word there spoken was the whispered word, Lenore!
This I whispered, and an echo murmured back the word, Lenore!
    Merely this and nothing more.

Back into the chamber turning, all my soul within me burning,
Soon again I heard a tapping somewhat louder than before.
    Surely, said I, surely that is something at my window lattice;
Let me see then, what thereat is, and this mystery explore -
Let my heart be still a moment and this mystery explore; -
'Tis the wind and nothing more!

Open here I flung the shutter, when, with many a flirt and flutter,
In there stepped a stately raven of the saintly days of yore.
    Not the least obeisance made he; not a minute stopped or stayed he;
But, with mien of lord or lady, perched above my chamber door -
Perched upon a bust of Pallas just above my chamber door -
Perched, and sat, and nothing more.

Then this ebony bird beguiling my sad fancy into smiling,
By the grave and stern decorum of the countenance it wore,
Though thy crest be shorn and shaven, thou, I said, art sure no craven.
Ghastly grim and ancient raven wandering from the nightly shore -
Tell me what thy lordly name is on the Night's Plutonian shore!

    Quoth the raven, Nevermore.

Much I marvelled this ungainly fowl to hear discourse so plainly,
    Though its answer little meaning - little relevancy bore;
For we cannot help agreeing that no living human being
Ever yet was blessed with seeing bird above his chamber door -
Bird or beast above the sculptured bust above his chamber door,
    With such name as "Nevermore."

But the raven, sitting lonely on the placid bust, spoke only,
That one word, as if his soul in that one word he did outpour.
Nothing further then he uttered - not a feather then he fluttered -
Till I scarcely more than muttered Other friends have flown before -
On the morrow he will leave me, as my hopes have flown before.

    Quoth the raven, Nevermore.

Startled at the stillness broken by reply so aptly spoken,
Doubtless, said I, what it utters is its only stock and store,
Caught from some unhappy master whom unmerciful disaster
Followed fast and followed faster till his songs one burden bore -
Till the dirges of his hope that melancholy burden bore
    Of "Nevermore."

But the raven still beguiling all my sad soul into smiling,
    Straight I wheeled a cushioned seat in front of bird and bust and door;
Then, upon the velvet sinking, I betook myself to linking
Fancy unto fancy, thinking what this ominous bird of yore -
What this grim, ungainly, ghastly, gaunt, and ominous bird of yore
    Meant in croaking Nevermore.

This I sat engaged in guessing, but no syllable expressing
    To the fowl whose fiery eyes now burned into my bosom's core;
This and more I sat divining, with my head at ease reclining
On the cushion's velvet lining that the lamp-light gloated o'er,
But whose velvet violet lining with the lamp-light gloating o'er,
    She shall press, ah, nevermore!

Then, methought, the air grew denser, perfumed from an unseen censer
Swung by angels whose foot-falls tinkled on the tufted floor.
Wretch, I cried, thy God hath lent thee - by these angels he has sent thee
Respite - respite and nepenthe from thy memories of Lenore!
Quaff, oh quaff this kind nepenthe, and forget this lost Lenore!

    Quoth the raven, Nevermore.

Prophet! said I, thing of evil! - prophet still, if bird or devil! -
Whether tempter sent, or whether tempest tossed thee here ashore,
Desolate yet all undaunted, on this desert land enchanted -
On this home by horror haunted - tell me truly, I implore -
Is there - is there balm in Gilead? - tell me - tell me, I implore!

    Quoth the raven, Nevermore.

Prophet! said I, thing of evil! - prophet still, if bird or devil!
By that Heaven that bends above us - by that God we both adore -
Tell this soul with sorrow laden if, within the distant Aidenn,
It shall clasp a sainted maiden whom the angels named Lenore -
Clasp a rare and radiant maiden, whom the angels named Lenore?

    Quoth the raven, Nevermore.

Be that word our sign of parting, bird or fiend! I shrieked upstarting -
Get thee back into the tempest and the Night's Plutonian shore!
Leave no black plume as a token of that lie thy soul hath spoken!
Leave my loneliness unbroken! - quit the bust above my door!
Take thy beak from out my heart, and take thy form from off my door!

    Quoth the raven, Nevermore.

And the raven, never flitting, still is sitting, still is sitting
    On the pallid bust of Pallas just above my chamber door;
And his eyes have all the seeming of a demon's that is dreaming,
    And the lamp-light o'er him streaming throws his shadow on the floor;
And my soul from out that shadow that lies floating on the floor
    Shall be lifted - nevermore!

What's this? Mordy wrote yet another ship with himself in main role? And this time he didn't even made himself look like an ass? Le gasp! This cannot be! Lynch the bastard!

After that, read his newest creation and laught... or cry, whatever suits you more

    They can't all be bad!

Je Dit Viola/Mordokai(With Mi'ir(Cristo Meyers) mentioned)

    Spoiler
    Show
This wasn't a good day for Mordokai. They were short on funds, The Order hasn't gotten back to him about his question yet and he was getting restless about it... and to top it all, Mi'ir was getting tiresome as well. While the bard didn't share his restlessness, he was, never the less, growing tired and bored. This wasn't even a village... more of a hamlet, really. And as such, there wasn't much to do. Sure, the local ladies were all too happy to throw themselves at him, whether because of his voice or because his looks. It was a futile effort and Mordokai knew it, but he wouldn't say anything. It would be downright cruel to shatter the women dreams like that. Besides, he was getting no small amount of pleasure while watching the bard squirm his way out of potential suitors.

“I swear on Sune's name Mi'ir... stop it, or I'll make you.“

It was a lousy threat and he soon grew to regret it, as Mi'ir went into another tirade. He could be such a drama queen...

“Fine then, I'll just remove myself. I hope when I get back you'll behave a little more rational.“

He went to the door and opened it, stepping out of the room. It was only a short walk down the steps and soon he was breathing the fresh night air. It was obvious there would be no staying at the inn tonight. He decided to check on the competition, see what's on the menu. A short walk would do him good and a change of company wouldn't hurt either. After a quick pace, he was standing in the front of the inn, checking on how much gold he has left. Should be enough for a decent dinner and a pitcher of beer. After that, Mi'ir would hopefully be fast asleep already and he could go back in peace.

He sat down in the common room and waited for the serving boy to gather his order. The inn was a pleasant one, if a little small. Obviously it catered to different clientele that his regular one. What was weird was that, even if this inn looked distinctly worse for the wear, there were way more people than Mordokai ever remembered seeing it in the inn he and Mi'ir were staying at the moment. He was just about to start eating, when the innkeeper appeared before the crowd. The conversation immediately stopped, as if everybody was waiting for something.

“Ladies and gentleman, it is a pleasure to see you all again. As per usual, I bid you to stay a little longer and to ensure that, here's my daughter, Viola. Her music will hopefully make the night a little warmer.“

At the sound of this, Mordokai cringed. His distaste for bards was a public secret. Spending all the time with Mi'ir didn't really do anything to improve that. And here was a female bard? He remembered the time when Mi'ir had... an accident. Those were probably the worst three hours and twenty three minutes of Mordokai's life. He set the cutlery down, ready to pay for the food and be on his way. From the looks of it, he was doomed to wandering the streets tonight. He was just about to pull the coin purse out when she stepped on the podium. He quickly put the purse back in the pocket and sat back down.

She was a beauty. Short brown hair, blue eyes, long legs in a short skirt... and suddenly he wasn't feeling hungry anymore, but this time, for all another reason. As she started singing, he was like enthralled by her voice, not being able to look anywhere else. If he would look around himself, he would notice the other patrons pointing at him and smirking. It's not like he would care, but from the looks of, he was the only one acting like he never saw a woman before. As he would later learn, that was a common occurrence with new guests.

The hour was late and most of people already left when Viola finally stopped singing. She gave him a wink and disappeared. It was only then that Mordokai noticed how late it was. Probably too late to get back to the inn and get to sleep.

“Great, just great... now what am I supposed to do?“

The dinner was in front of him, same as when he started. He didn't touched it all night and it was already cold. He quickly drank a beer and pondered a little. From the looks of it, he would have to spend a night here.

“Certainly sir, we have rooms left.“

Luckily for Mordokai, he didn't even had to pay for it. Something about having an honest face, innkeeper said. And before long, he was in his new room. It wasn't as cosy as his regular one, but the bed looked comfortable and there was a pitcher of cold water to wash the dirt of his face. Taking his shirt down, he dipped his face in the water, washing some sleep away. It was at that time he heard a knock on the door.

Who could it be at this ungodly hour?

Opening the door, his jaw almost fell to the ground, as he saw Viola in the night gown, standing right in front of him.

“Viola! Why... what... what are you doing here?“

“I thought I'd check on great paladin, sir Mordokai myself. Wouldn't want you to leave with bad memories, would we now?“

This came as a big surprise. Nobody was supposed to know who he was. He was on a mission of secrecy. How could this girl found out his identity so easily?

“How do you know who I am?“

    She smiled sweetly.

“You're a legend and I'm a bard. It's my job to know about legends.“

“Is that so? And what do these legends say about me?“

“That you're a great fighter for justice. That you have a soft spot for pretty ladies. That you hate bards with passion.“

She laughed as his cheeks turned deep red.

“So what, did you came here to make fun of me?“

“I came here to check if the second part is true.“

And with that, the night gown fell of her shoulders. After a second it took him to gather himself, the paladin only smiled, as he stood aside and let the innkeepers daughter in his room.

From that moment on, his hate for bards has abated somewhat. Anytime that Mi'ir would start bothering him, his eyes glazed and he started smiling goofily.

    It made Mi'ir very uneasy.

To be fair, quite a few parts were probably confusing. Given the circumstances, I think it turned out rather ok. I had fun writing it anyway, though reading it back, I see all too many mistakes... but now it's too late to fix them and when I do start fixing things, it usually turns out even worse

The Cask of Amontillado featuring Jacklu/Reinholdt
    Spoiler
    Show
The heavy knocker sounded on the front door. Jacklu rubbed his hands together eagerly and went to answer it. Insult and embarrass me? Make me look like a fool in front of them all? No one impugns Jacklu! With the Playground Prom going on, no one had dared question him when he gave all the servants the night off. Finally, he would have his revenge!

Jacklu swung open the door, the cool night breeze blowing his hair back from his face. He was dressed in some of his finest clothes - he had to look the part. Everything must be perfect!

And there stood Reinholdt. The catboy was also dressed more nicely than normal, and Jacklu had caught him in the act of grooming himself. Clearing his throat quietly, Reinholdt flashed a nervous smile. "Uh, hey Jack. I was...sort of surprised to get your letter. We, um, we didn't part well the last time we spoke."

Jacklu grinned widely, his eyes hidden in shadows. Reinholdt couldn't see the madness dancing there. "Don't worry about it, Rein. It was silly. Please, I beg you, put all thought of that aside and come IN already."

The cold wind ruffled Reinholdt's fur, then he nodded and stepped inside the impressive manor home. The firelight flickered, shadows dancing across his grey fur, making it appear almost dappled. "Nice place ya got here. All to yourself?"

Jacklu waved away the question. "Myself and the servants. But they are all away at the prom. Tell me, Rein, why aren't you there, too?"

The catboy shuddered. "I don't like crowds. Or punch."

Jacklu nodded, smiling, then turned and led the way to the dining room. The table is already set for two, one at each end. The attractive centerpiece had been moved to one side so as to not obscure each other's views. A goblet of wine sat before each spot, the liquid within dark crimson. Jacklu took his spot at the head of the table and raised his glass. "To our renewed friendship."

Reinholdt eyed the alcohol warily. "Jack, I'm really not much of a drinker. I don't think I should..."

Jacklu placed a hand over his heart, as if wounded. "Rein, do you mean to tell me that you will not drink to my toast? Not to our friendship springing forth anew?"

Not wanting to argue or make things uncomfortable between them again, Reinholdt shook his head and lifted his glass. "To our friendship." He took a long swallow, which Jacklu watched from behind his own glass. The catboy licked his lips several times, eyes wide. "This...this is delicious! What IS it?"

Jacklu chuckles. "My own private blend. Fermented with a touch of catnip." Reinholdt barely heard him, his glass tilted back to finish the draught. Jacklu smiled and lifted a bottle. "Would you like another?"

Reinholdt nodded eagerly, glass held forth in both hands. Jacklu smiled more widely. Everything was going perfectly.
    ------------------------------
After a truly delectable meal, and several more glasses of catnip-laced wine, Jacklu and Reinholdt found themselves full and content. The bottle sat empty and Reinholdt purred quietly, licking his lips again and again. Jacklu steepled his fingers and watched his guest, eyes half closed. Finally, he broke the silence. "Well, this has been fun. But the hour grows late - perhaps you should be returning home?"

Reinholdt blinked his eyes several times and looked around. "Is it? Oh, I suppose you're right." He stood unsteadily, swaying slightly. "Well, I guess I'll be going then. It was great seeing you again, Jack."

Jacklu nodded sagely, then put a finger to his lips. "Of course, you COULD just stay here. It's getting rather cold out by now, and with the servants gone, there is no one to take you home."

Reinholdt thought about it, then shook his head. The motion made him grab the edge of the table for support. "I...oh...no, I simply couldn't impose on you like that. But thank you - you are very kind."

Jacklu did his best to look almost offended. "But it's no imposition at all, Rein. Really. I'll tell you what - I just got an extremely rare, valuable bottle of Catnip Amontillado. We should drink it before the fire and catch up. Please...I insist."

A twinkle flashed across Reinholdt's glassy gaze. He nodded quickly, groaned, then nodded more slowly. "I suppose I could...since you insist. Let's...let's get it." He looked around.

Jacklu chuckled and came around the table to put an arm around Reinholdt's shoulders. "It's down in the wine cellar. Something so precious has to be kept just so. And safe, of course, from prying eyes and lips."

Reinholdt nodded and gestured with his arm. "Then let's go get it, before one of those beady-eyed servants does."

Jacklu chukled and gently led his drunken friend towards the staircase downward. Reinholdt pulled away and started feeling his way down along the wall, and Jacklu had to supress the urge to push him down the stairs, to hear each bounce and crack and scream on the way down...he shook his head to clear it, grabbed a torch, and headed down after Reinholdt. His smile was terrifying.
    -------------------------------
After a long and winding descent, the air thick and foul and misty, Jacklu turned to Reinholdt. "Ah, nearly there now. This way."

Reinholdt coughed and blinked, making his way through the haze made worse by his condition. His cat-sight did him no good now as he had to actively work to keep himself on his feet. Peering ahead, he saw Jacklu stop before an opening. "Here - here we are. Just in here. Would you be so kind, Master Reinholdt?"

Eager to be done with this place - and to sip the drink - Reinholdt stepped into the opening. He saw only a smooth brick wall before him. Confused, he put his palms against the wall and rested his forehead on the brick. Surely, his eyes deceived him...

Jacklu stepped forward in a flash and grabbed Reinholdt's wrist. Reaching further aside in the darkness, he brought forth a manacle and clamped it down. As well as the ankle on that side. Reinholdt blinked stupidly and looked at the heavy chain binding him, then turned to look at Jacklu. "Ja-Jacklu?" As the catboy turned, Jacklu bound his other wrist and ankle, having feigned his drunkenness all evening. As Reinholdt went to step forward and was held back, something seemed to stir in his consciousness. This was all very, very wrong. More alert and awake now, Reinholdt struggled against the chains, rattling them inside his little alcove. "I-I don't see the b-bottle, and I d-don't like this g-game."

Jacklu sneered, pressing his face close to Reinholdt's. "Game? You think this is a GAME?! Of course you do, silly catboy with his catnip. As if games were anything to be laughed at. Life is not a game, but you treated it that way, oh yes. Treated it like a game that you were the best player at. One that only YOU held the rulebook to. You ridiculed and mocked me, made me look...like...like a FOOL! And no one...no one impugns Jacklu." His eyes were wide and mad, and he even giggled a little as he walked away and turned a corner.

Reinholdt's eyes flew wide open. "HEY! You can't leave me down here like this!"

Jacklu's head came back around the corner. "Leave you? Like this? Oh no, that wouldn't do at all." Reinholdt sighed with relief...then froze as he heard the madman's next words. "Someone might find you. And we can't have that, now can we?" Reinholdt screamed and pulled at his chains, his drunken stupor burned away by sheer terror. Jacklu yelled and screamed and laughed with him, creating as much noise as he could. "They're all at the prom, Rein. No one will find you - because you know what happens AFTER prom. Mmhmm, trips behind the curtain - no one will be back here tonight."

Reinholdt kept screaming and struggling, not ready to give up. After all, someone had to come down eventually, right?! And then he saw it...the heavy pallet of bricks and mortar Jacklu was lugging into place. The pieces set together all too quickly and horrifically for the poor catboy, who suddenly found himself robbed of the air to breath, much less scream.

Jacklu chuckled, then started humming as he rolled up his sleeves and began to work. Like some horrible Tetris game, the bricks fit together seamlessly. Only, instead of clearing a line when it was full, it blocked out a little more of the light and air. The wall was to Reinholdt's chest before he began to cry. Jacklu paused in his work to watch and smile, closing his eyes and breathing deeply to savor the moment. Then, shrugging, he got back to work. He built up the sides and overhead, leaving a gap for Reinholdt's face so he could watch it.

However, Jacklu became so engrossed in his work that he didn't notice when the catboy lost consciousness. He stopped to peer inside and gloat and saw the still face, eyes closed. Fearing the end had come too soon, Jacklu reached through the hole and slapped Reinholdt's cheek. The catboy's head snapped up, eyes wide. He began to whimper quietly. "This is a dream. A terrible, awful dream. I'll never drink again, I swear it."

Jacklu's face peeked in, grinning maniacally, blocking nearly all the light. "That's one promise I can help you keep, Rein." His voice was sing-song, as if it was all fun, all a game, a joke.

Reinholdt started to laugh. Jacklu frowned and barked at him to stop. Then he yelled and screamed and whispered horrible things to Rein about the way he would die, be forgotten and unnoticed by the others. And still the catboy laughed. Unable to bear it any longer, Jacklu placed the last few bricks into place and sealed it closed. Still, faintly, he could hear the laughter. Panting for breath, he pressed his ear against the new wall, scraping his cheek on the new brick. The laughter continued, then dwindled slightly. Then some coughing, the chains clanking in protest...then...nothing. Stillness.

Satisfied, Jacklu put away his masonry gear, stacking the remaining bricks neatly, as he had found them. Whistling, he headed upstairs to sit before the fire with a glass of wine. Glancing up at the fireplace, he smiled at the slight, barely notable change made to his family crest.

It was a snake being crushed under a boot, rising up to strike the ankle as its life was stolen. The leg and ankle being bitten, sweet vengeful venom doing its work, was covered in fine grayish-blue hairs.

Quite possibly my favorite Poe story, along with the Telltale Heart. Nice job, Dirk.

    Wow. Just...wow.

I reread that story literally 2 hours ago. The Mystery Writers of America put out a Poe commemorative thingie this year for his 200th birthday, and I checked it out from the library. It's Poe stories interspersed with essays by people who have won Edgar Awards.

It's pretty awesome. And now this ship? My day has suddenly turned less blarghy. Now, if ships could just make me less sick...

=3 Perfect. I luvs it very much. Oh, and Rein? You know exactly what you did to deserve it. *holds up tattered sock* >.>
Still not really here. Still just an illusion.

Mordokai: D'awww, so very cute. I approve very much <3
Dirky: Heh. Interesting. I like that you kept to the psychosis of the story (that Jack flipped out over what was more likely a small slight, or a completely conceived, nonexistant slight), but improvised from there on out. Fantastic ending.
Possibly one of the best you've done so far.

Rabbit might be writing more SW ships today. Maybe some regular stuff. Dunno.

I think you missed Wolf's ship about Rein/Flora and Thufir's series response to it. It was a good series. And totally changed some shipping relationships around.

I doubt I will ever be able to fully catch up, so I think it might be easier just to begin anew.
But I will have to read some choice ships I think.

    And... maybe... write some?

Would it be presumptious of me to think you guys might want to read anything by me anymore?

The battle continued to rage outside, blazing beams of lightsabres clashing against another, greens and blues mixing with the bloody colors of the Sith sabres to make a murky shade of death.
The sounds of blasters overwhelmed the air, so that anyone within miles could hear only the constant static zoom.
It was a battle that would go down through the ages.

And loopy was stuck in med-bay, far, far from the carnage and the fight for the continuation of his beliefs. They fought for the continuation of Jedi.
    "Yowch!"
loopy hissed, pulling himself away from the medical droid who had prodded him so violently.
"Master, I can't assist if you do not cease sudden movements."
Grinding his teeth, loopy steered his gaze away from the oncoming needle. True, he had fought with monster twice his size, and had faced the possibilities of death over and over, but still, a small needle was all that he could take.
And his eyes landed on her.
A Padawan, but not much younger than the young Knight that he was. With her back turned to him, he could only recognize her by her long white hair, pulled up for easier access to the gaping wound against her chest, and her pale, milky skin.
    "Mistress Eleventh-"
"No! I don't want the pills!"
"But they'll help with the pain."
"I'm a Jedi. Pain is nothing."
Suddenly, all his thoughts, all his teaching on purity, disappeared in a tuft of gray smoke.
She was slashed across her chest, and she sat topless, only one bed away, and loopy was instantly overcome with thoughts, desires. Images of his lips at her neck, drifting down her slender shoulder to trail along her spine. Was her skin as soft as he would have liked to think of it as?
Murmurs of imagined lovers filled his ears, erasing the sounds of the ongoing battle, and loopy felt so confused with this desire to leap over the bed between them, to press against her and...
    "Ow!"
    "Sorry, Master."
When he looked up from the injection in his arm, her privacy screen was deployed, and loopy the Jedi sat back against his rock-hard pillow, sighing.

"This is why it hurts the way it hurts.
You have too many words in your head.
There are too many ways to describe the way you feel.
You will never have the luxury of a dull ache.
You must suffer through the intricacy of feeling too much"
