Goku lost a parenting contest to Superman? I mean Gohan turned out alright and well just take a look at the silver age Jimmy Olsen comics to see how many ways Superman can find to fail.

It didn't matter that we discussed several anti tank weapons and fighter jets, or that we accepted we'd take up to 99% casualties.

You don't have to tell me that. Out of all the people there I was the most supportive of Superman losing. They did make some really good arguments, but I can't remember them at the moment.

Scratch my earlier response, dumbest argument I heard by far is this...

Doesn't matter how many people support one side, unless their argument is perfect... undeniable, correct...
In other words, half the playground could support one side, reasoning that their argument was better put together and more convincing, and it wouldn't matter squat to the other.

In the same LK vs. Sauron thread I mentioned earlier, the Sauron side claimed victory, despite a thread on the same topic having a majority of people saying that the Lich Kings side put up better arguments.

Similarly, superweapon technology does exist in the Trek-verse (in Generations, we see that the tech is available to destroy stars- the Federation just doesn't use it). Considering the Sun Crusher's torpedoes cost more than the Death Star's superlaser on research and development, it's something to remember.

And Star Wars doesn't appear to have anything like transporter or replicator tech.

Doesn't mean the two are equal tech-wise, but it does mean that the scale of the tech and power disparity may be being overstated.

Suffice to say that I think there are a lot of reasons to disagree with this, but since "Star Trek vs. Star Wars" is itself one of the worst "VS" arguments on the Internet, I'm not going to go into that.

Hey, what's the opposite of Christopher Walken?

Anyway, probably the single worst VS argument I ever read was Chuck Norris VS Bruce Lee. In a reality sense, none of that BS you see on the internet.
It was the most ridiculous argument I'd ever heard. So I finally stepped in and wrote, "Bruce Lee won the battle, but two days before the movie came out he died in a coma from the aftershock causing Chuck Norris to win the war."
Mod comes in, quotes it, and locks the thread. It was funny, but still really sad.

Holy crap, people actually thought that was an argument?!? Lee *taught* Norris for chrissake!

Norris is good at *Karate*, which is a fine art, but in an MMA situation is practically worthless. Lee *invented* a martial art based on beating your opponent at any cost.

I know this isn't what this thread is for, but it boggles the mind.

The Enterprise devastates cities. A Star Destroyer will devastate the planet. Seriously, an SD is capable of cracking a planet's crust pretty easily. That's one of the big reasons a single SD can pacify an entire planet.

    Point of order:

How is "Q is powerful" an argument for "the Federation would win in a fight?" The Q continuum are not in the habit of bailing the Federation's butt out of the fire.

That goes double for the Borg, who are in fact the Federation's enemies.

It's only the Jedi who do that, and they do it because it works for them. Everybody else in that universe sensibly uses ranged weapons for serious combat.

Ooooo! Ooooo! I just remembered the worst one I've ever read! Rather than admit that the Galactic Empire has medical technology more advanced than the Federation when presented with the fact that, when being electrocuted by the Emperor, one can clearly see metal vertebrae in Darth Vader's skeleton (demonstrating the ability to repair the central nervous system, something that Federation medical technology is canonically unable to reliably do), Robert Scott Anderson, aka Darkstar, aka Guardian2000 postulated that humans in Star Wars naturally have metal bones.
"Courage is the complement of fear. A fearless man cannot be courageous. He is also a fool." -- Robert Heinlein
