Re: Searching for Shinies I
Godrick ponders for a moment. "Perhaps I could throw my grappling hook out and latch on to an adjacent tile to one of those openings. We could then advance as a snake, scooting along the rope triggering traps as a baboon drunk on late fall's gourds would. If a tile falls out and one of our group falls below the floor, he would be safely dangling from the rope as a monkey hangs from a tree to tease the young tiger. Like a set of bear cubs trying to get to a beehive, we would help those who are not adept at climbing to get back up to the floor level."

"Just a few scratches. Nothing major. Godrick if you're going to do anything that risky, why not just wait until tommarrow, and I'll be able to summon a disk of pure energy to carry you across?"

Re: Searching for Shinies I
Jack is able to disable a device, and the first five feet of the path are safe (auto nothing on the danger roll).
SpoilerI wanted to see if their were any other ideas, and I like Godrick's. I'm not against the party resting for new spells to tackle this obstacle, but before you do can I know the full plan?

Re: Searching for Shinies I
"We could as it might save some time. I really can not help with that kinda of magic as most of mine is for attacking or defending. " Jack says spinning his tools in his hand clearly bord. He walks over to another trap and looks at it.
He lets the others talk and listens to the conversation but he and his cat tinker with a new trap.

"I won't lie, this will dangerous. I can't move the disk very far from myself, so I can only bring you half way. Then I'll have to bring it back, and I myself ride across before depositing you on the other side."
I cast floating disk, and levitate Jack halfway down the hallway.

Re: Searching for Shinies I
SpoilerIF ever I had a problem in DnD as a DM IRL it was that when the players came up with a plan, it usually wouldn't work. If it did, it certainly didn't go through perfectly. The worst cases were when the plan would fail because of a detail I had left out by mistake. Whatever sense of realism it gave the adventure, it was never worth the disatisfaction of the player. I say all this because I liked the floating disk strategy. You could have floated above the spikes on the bottom level. But it only holds 100lbs per level, which is 1. And I think, with the party all human adventurers with gear, that everyone weighs at least 200 lbs.
This hall however has dragged on enough, and I can see it may not have been my best idea. Between Jack, the floating disk, a pulley scheme, and rope, the party is able to cross the hall way.
I'll post the contents of the next room within the day.

Re: Searching for Shinies I
The door leading to the next room is composed of elaborately wrought iron supporting thin brick work. The iron appears to be in the shape of a multitide of flowers. The handle is a gem studded iron rose, and it turns with a gentle click. Pushing and pulling the door have no effect, however, and it takes the party a few minutes to see that the door slides out and to the side.
The room is 50 ft by 50 ft, with a large tower in the dead center about 30 ft in diameter that reaches the ceiling. Five feet from the tower stretches out a mote filed with water, and the remaining 15ft (at the thin points in the room, such as just in front of the party) is a tile floor. There are no other entrances or exits on this level.
The water is deeper than can be seen to the bottom with normal torchlight, and a pebble with light cast upon it drops down more than the 40ft for which light would come back. The water seems pure enough, a little stale with a salty after taste from all the stone, but fresh enough. The tiles on the floor are cut and smoothed dessicated coral, bleached white from the sun. The walls of the room are composed of Dwarven cut stone (good quality. probably kept aligned with force walls during the morter curing). The stone is other wise unremarkable.
All this pales in comparison to the tower. While it has no obvious entrances or exits, it is composed of one solid peice of white volcanic obsidian, extremely rare and not found on the prime material plane naturally. The scorching hot magma forms around pockets of emerald, ruby, saphire, amethyst, and even bits of raw Rogue stone. What's even more impressive, the gem pockets were deliberatly left in place and magically protected while the magma oozed around it in such a way as to create a beautiful floral pattern consisting of metalic veins as the stems and the gems as the flowers and petals. Minute detail even shows gem encrusted butterflies and dragonflies.
Assuming the party has the means to see underwater, the first five feet under are relatively gentle, with a layer of smooth masonry around the outer edge of the mote. On the far side from the room entrance, however, is a metal gate in the wall at 7 ft deep. Beyond the gate is a massive treasure chest. The gate is as finely crafted as the door that leads into the room, and has a similar floral design. Dwarven script is etched stone around the gate. It reads:
A life in the trees is too close to the never ending sky for the mountain tribe, but a garden amongst the pointy know-it-alls can be more than pleasant. In unison, give praise to my fine craftsmanship with the entryway in both mine and their tongue.

Re: Searching for Shinies I
Dang, does anyone speak dwarven? More importantly, any ideas about how to get this tower out? We could probably try to pry out the gems, but the whole thing is probably worth more. Who could be the pointed headed know it alls?"
I cast detect magic.

"Unfortunately, I am not that well-versed with Dwarven." Magnus scratched his head. With nothing better to suggest, Edgard said: "Why don't we hit it?"

"You mean the gate between us and the treasure? Sure, brute force is rarely a bad idea. Anyone have any rope? We could try to set something up to pull it off."

Re: Searching for Shinies I
SpoilerOne of my domains is Strength, and that gives me one feat of supernatural strength per day. Essentially, I add my cleric levels into the strength check.
I cast Enlarge Person on myself. Giving me a +2 to my strength.
