LOL!! You are correct. I've worded so many so differently this match, I forgot. Cancel the above then.

You can't double move and ready an action. Readying is a standard action.

    From the SRD:

    "Ready

The ready action lets you prepare to take an action later, after your turn is over but before your next one has begun. Readying is a standard action. It does not provoke an attack of opportunity (though the action that you ready might do so). "

That was waaaaay too close for comfort. Hit though, and the raging giant takes a point of damage. :D No change, still your turn.

Which matters not even a little, I needed you under 6 if I wanted to try to win through damage. I'm not dead yet, but with you looming, I guess it's time to take the bull by the horns and hope I don't lose, because as tough as Yrik is, Squirrel over in the loser's bracket is tougher (at least against a character like Solus).

    Move to A-8.

THIS time I got the wording right, and you readying an action triggers my readied action. Yrik moves to A13/B14. Does that trigger your readied action?

Damn... I figured it wouldn't, but that only leaves 2 legitimate options left. Lets see how dumb I look.

    Yrik, round 8

As a free action Yrik will close his eyes, then move to A9/B10. As another free he will open his eyes and attempt to crush his opponent under his massive greatsword.

I'd say that falls within the wording of my readied action, although with something like this it's hard to say. I'll go ahead and roll for defensive casting, and if it fails nothing else matters. If it succeeds, then you can roll your Will save, and only if that fails will we have to get down to the lawyering nitty-gritty.

    Casting Color Spray defensively: (1d20+6)[20]

OK, that's one hurdle cleared, since the DC was 16. Your turn.

What was the wording of your action? Color blind does not work verses creatures without sight, pretty sure closed eyes make Yrik sightless. Rolling just in case I'm wrong, because if I make it it's a moot point to be sorted out later.

And all that prepping was moot. :D Heh. Ah well, down to the nitty gritty lawyering anyway. So long as your readied action was conditional on me being in range, not attacking, I think Yrik avoids the effect with closed eyes. At least, that's what the color spray description seems to imply. However, I've been off or wrong so often this match, I could be chasing my tail.

While this isn't a ruling on the matter (and it doesn't much matter, as you passed the save), I would consider it unlikely that the negligible protection provided by thin eyelids would stop a Color Spray. You're not sightless, you just have a somewhat-opaque barrier between your eyes and the spell.

See, that's why I insisted on the rolls before the lawyering. The one good thing about being dead is I don't have to be involved in the argument. Figured that out back in my second match, was all set to hem and haw about bleed-offs and all this since my foe was unconscious and I was stuck in the quicksand and sinking fast. But I stopped myself short and decided to roll some swim checks to see if it mattered, and it didn't, because I had a run of good luck that got my heavy ass out of the muck and into victory lane. In any case, good fight, and I highly doubt I see you in the finals. And rest assured, you'll be the last opponent I let get away with going past the DQ limit. The fact that this could have been my win days ago if I'd felt like pushing for it does not escape me.
