So who here has started playing old games BECAUSE of Erfworld?
I personally have started playing Warlords 3: Darklords Rising directly because of Erfworld (The similarities are uncanny! It seems to be one of the main types of games that Erfworld pays homage to.).
So I am asking, who else here is playing any OLD (defined as made in 2000 or before), video or computer games because of Erfworld?

Age of Wonders II.
Fo' sho'.
Similar elements include mass-produced semi-casters, stack size and sub-zones. Plus "being awesome."Rider avatar by Elder Tsofu

Age of Wonders: Shadow Magic (2003).
And I tried Elven Legacy (a not-old wargame) because of Erfworld too.Last edited by Ellye; 2009-09-19 at 05:35 PM.

Re: So who here has started playing old games BECAUSE of Erfworld?
I haven't been playing anything specifically because of Erfworld, but then that's because I'm a bit of a wierd one to begin with. I play some classic games (some might say "old, moldy, dusty, and deservedly so" but not me) and would do whether or not Erfworld tweaked my memory. I'll admit though that I may have played some of the classics a bit more when Erfworld first came out; I just honestly didn't keep close enough track to be sure either way. So as to let others choose whether the old games were better (which is my general belief; I consider most new games an attempt to reduce depth and increase beauty because flashy games with no substance and useless annual updates make more money), I'll link up the Strategy section at one of my favourite sites.
Abandonia is a great site wherein a lot of old software, no longer supported nor policed, finds a home. Goodies such as the Ancient Art of War, Ascendancy, Star Control, Command & Conquer and much more. (And including, incidentally, the already-mentioned Master of Magic)
WARNINGS:
1. You may require a DOS emulator in order to run some of the games on their site. You may further need a Windows 3.1 emulator (or install) on a DOS emulator to run some of them.
2. You may spend unwholesome amounts of time playing some of these old games because, while their graphics are dated and their interfaces sometimes clunky, some of them have depth of gameplay which hasn't been touched since. (offhand, the Might and Magic RPG series springs to mind, especially MM3.)Don't bother trying to appeal to my better nature; I don't have one.

Re: So who here has started playing old games BECAUSE of Erfworld?
Unfortunately, I only got to play the demo of I, while I had the full version of II.
So it's entirely possible that what you're saying is true! I wasted a ton of time on just those two demo maps, and all in all I feel it's an excellent game.
How are the campaigns, by the way? Every now and then I get the urge to pick it up.Rider avatar by Elder Tsofu

I am feeling this weird urge to start playing heroes III after reading erfworld... I guess I should pick up my old campaign... fully levelled necromancer and army of undead at my beck and call...ah, good times
I have also thought of starting to play one reeeeally old strategy game again... if I only find it

Re: So who here has started playing old games BECAUSE of Erfworld?
Nope, but now that you mention it, I could go for some advance wars...
"Sons of Gondor, of Rohan, my brothers! I see in your eyes the same fear that would take the heart of me. A day may come when the courage of men fails, when we forsake our friends and break all bonds of fellowship, but it is not this day. An hour of woes and shattered shields, when the age of men comes crashing down! But it is not this day! This day we fight! By all that you hold dear on this good Earth, I bid you stand, Men of the West!"

Re: So who here has started playing old games BECAUSE of Erfworld?
SpoilerDM: "Sunder the wall?! WT**** kind of tactics are these!?"
Me: The kind that armies have been using for millennia.
DM: They didn't do it with swords!
Me: Which makes us so much cooler.
Player: Where are the babau in relation to everyone else?
Me: They're right behind you. Vesil is covered in Loki's blood. That is their location in relation to you.
Player: I was just wondering about a fireball.
