    Default [4E] Homebrew Rituals (PEACH)

    Planar Binding:
You conjure an extradimensional being, coercing or convincing it into doing your bidding.

    Level: Variable (see text)
Component Cost: Variable plus 1 healing surge per tier
    Category: Binding
    Market Price: 1000 GP
    Time: Variable
    Key Skill: Arcana or Religion
    Duration: 24 hours (special)

When you cast this ritual, you must choose the level of the creature you are attempting to summon and bind. This is the level of the ritual.

The component cost of this ritual is equal to 50 / level of a Heroic creature, 500 / level of a Paragon creature and 5000 / level of an Epic creature.

The time required to complete this ritual is equal to 1 minute / level of a Heroic creature, 10 minutes / level of a Paragon creature, and 1 hour / level of an Epic creature.

You create a summoning circle of a size equal to the creature you intend to summon. Make an Arcana or Religion check against a hard DC of your level.

On a failure, the creature can willingly appear at the summoning circle, and gains control of the ritual; if the creature is evil, it is likely to attack immediately. Otherwise you lose 2 healing surges for every 5 points you failed the DC by from the backlash of the ritual. If this would reduce you to 0 healing surges or less, you die. A successful Endurance check against the same DC reduces this healing surge loss by half.

On a success, you summon and bind the creature within the summoning circle. It cannot leave the circle or attack through it by any means unless the ritual's controller permits it to. You can then choose to either bargain or persuade the bound creature to serve you, or you can compel its service with the magic of the ritual. If you fail to persuade it, you can choose to compel it afterwords.

If you attempt to persuade the creature, you must succeed at a Complexity 1 skill challenge for Heroic creatures, a Complexity 3 skill challenge for Paragon creatures, and a Complexity 5 skill challenge for Epic creatures. You gain a +2 bonus to all skill checks in these skill challenges for each 5 points your Arcane or Religion skill check exceeded the DC to summon the creature. How successful you are determines how receptive the creature will be to your requests. A failure means the creature is uncooperative, but you retain control of the ritual, and it remains trapped until the ritual ends.

If you attempt to compel the creature, you must spend a healing surge and make an attack roll against its Will defense, using the result of your Arcana or Religion check divided by 2 as the attack bonus. If you hit, the creature counts as dominated for the duration of the binding. If you miss, you lose control of the creature, the creature gains control of the ritual, and it acts freely, or it returns to its former location and the ritual backlashes and ends as above. You do not need line of sight or effect to make this attack, nor do you need to be on the same plane.

You can dismiss or free the creature as a minor action while you control the ritual. You do not need line of sight or effect to do so, and you do not need to be on the same plane. As a free action, you can communicate telepathically with the creature while you control the ritual.

The creature remains until the ritual ends, at which point it vanishes and returns to its former location. If you have control of the ritual, you can sustain it at the end of its duration for another 24 hours by spending a healing surge. You do not need line of sight or effect to sustain this ritual nor do you need to be on the same plane. If you are compelling the creature, you must repeat the attack against the creature's Will as above when you sustain the ritual, or you automatically miss, along with the stated consequences. If you sustain this ritual for a year and a day, all of its effects become permanent, including the domination effect.
