I hereby challenge anyone to advance a decent argument in favour of dualism.

Re: Rpgsr4me's Ravenous, Roaring, Raging Rampage of Random Banter #134
The first movie really got to me, because while it was, for the most part, accurate enough, it managed to leave out what is one of the most important bits of the book. They left out Snape's puzzle. Not only does that completely remove Hermione's chance to shine, it completely destroys the argument that "Oh, Snape can't be trying to steal the Stone, he's one of the ones helping protect it!" Without that puzzle, he is doing no such thing.
Also the puzzle bit was awesome.Eat Poop You Cat

Re: Rpgsr4me's Ravenous, Roaring, Raging Rampage of Random Banter #134
My general view is that the purpose of films of books is so we have an easier time imagining what the characters look and sound like the next time we read it.
Anything more than that is a bonus."'But there's still such a lot to be done...'
YES. THERE ALWAYS IS."

Re: Rpgsr4me's Ravenous, Roaring, Raging Rampage of Random Banter #134
Long, bass-ackwards arbitrary prompt essays can go to hell and buy a summer home.
Jane Austen's Persuasion is a unstoppable, intensely dull analysis of a bunch of characters we have no reason to care about.
Combine the two, we've got a recipe for brain killer.
Combine the two, then throw in a little light illness, and we've got the worst weekend ever.Spoiler<-I won this from Dr. Bath.Spoiler

Re: Rpgsr4me's Ravenous, Roaring, Raging Rampage of Random Banter #134
And I'd like to write that essay. I'd especially like to write it if I could ditch this purposefully bland academic style and revert to my no-hold-barred English Fu snarkishness.
As it is, my prompt is as follows:
How does occupying a particular place either geographically or in the social hierarchy affect characters' thinking? How does traveling from one place to another or experiencing financial fortune or misfortune affect characters' capacity or incapacity for change? Why might a particular place or traveling from one place to another have an effect on the way characters think?Last edited by Rutskarn; 2009-12-05 at 08:19 PM.
