Re: [WFRP] The Hour After Midnight
Illiiya
Spoiler“Gavinborough,” said Jagrun, making a note of the name. “Thank you,”
Seemingly satisfied for now, he set down his quill, sitting back in his chair.
“Now,” he said, “I would be obliged if you would give me your account of your recent activities in Delberz, leading up to the discovery of the mutant Puderbrand. Please spare no details.”

Spoiler'I can't remember names off the top of my head, I think some of the members can be found at the Hammer and Tongs. As far as I know their only mention of the church is the request for more aid for the refugees, which seems to be their primary concern, raising awareness of the need. Surely that is a holy cause sir?'Avatar by JenZeeSigatar by Me

Re: [WFRP] The Hour After Midnight
Ithelus
Spoiler"Perhaps," said Jagrun, his expression remaining enigmatically impassive.
"On a related matter, I must inform you that Pilserier was found dead in his cell this morning," he said, with a sharp, business-like change of subject, "along with a carter called Hoffer, who I believe had been taken in as the last of the mutant band." He met Ithelus' eyes again. "Are you aware of anyone who the apothecary might have had reason to fear?"

Spoiler'oh definately. Thing is sir, we worked out that whoever was running this operation is buried deep, someone with the will to do this and the money to make ti a reality. I'm pretty sure then sir, that they also have the means to remove anyone who would talk.' Spoiler"Then there is no-one... specific, that you suspect?" pressed Jagrun, evenly. "Someone with money, you say. Most of Delberz's nobility were present last night. There was no-one there you recognised from your investigations?"

Re: [WFRP] The Hour After Midnight
Ithelus
SpoilerIthelus paused, '...Forgive me sir, I have no wish to throw round names based on such circumstantial ideas considering the reputation your profession carries. I do believe on the one occasion we discussed it the only one we could solidly come up with is the Lector himself, which is of course a laughable idea.'Avatar by JenZeeSigatar by Me

Re: [WFRP] The Hour After Midnight
Ithelus
SpoilerJagrun raised his eyebrows a fraction of an inch, as if Ithelus' answer had surprised him slightly.
"You have no wish to throw round names? Presumably meaning you do know names."
He pushed the papers aside, putting his hands together.
"A man's gut instinct may often be the first and best indicator in a case as murky as this. If there is someone else you suspect, do not hesitate to say so. I assure you no harm will come to anyone as a result of your words." He paused. "Unless of course, evidence is found to support them."

Re: [WFRP] The Hour After Midnight
Ithelus
SpoilerIthelus looks the hunter straight in the eye. 'The Lector, Sargent Halbermaan, Captain von Bucker and the Baron himself. Those were the names we came up with of people who could misdirect any investigations into the incidents. Of those the Lector is the one who stands to gain the most, what with the increased influence he now has considering the fact that he is a Sigmar priest in a area devoted to Ulric. He also now has a private army at his beck and call. However sir, when we discussed this with the Captain, whilst he was not pleased at my suggestion it could be him he did point out that the castle can be fairly corrupt and anyone with sufficient gold and motivation could have pulled it off. Sir.'Avatar by JenZeeSigatar by Me

Spoiler"Thank you," said Jagrun, pulling across his sheet of notes and writing something down. While he was still writing, he spoke again, not looking up from the page.
"You mentioned Sergeant Halbermann. What is your opinion of his management of the Hounds of Sigmar?" He stopped writing and looked up. "I believe you said earlier that they had been a hindrance?"Last edited by LCP; 2010-05-03 at 02:29 PM.

Re: [WFRP] The Hour After Midnight
Ithelus
Spoiler'Poor sir, very poor. I have mentioned to the Captain that I feel strongly about the way the man runs his gang. It could be that they are perfectly innocent, but that does not mean they could not be used to disrupt investigations, you just have to point their over zealous heads in the right direction. Also they are involved in racketeering and other untoward business, and indeed the populous treats them with fear... Not exactly a very Holy group. What about you sir? Do you feel I'm wrong?'Avatar by JenZeeSigatar by Me

Re: [WFRP] The Hour After Midnight
Ithelus
Spoiler"I have yet to form an opinion. Thank you, for yours," said Jagrun, his face remaining unreadable.
Seemingly done with this avenue of questioning, the Witch Hunter produced a folded piece of paper, and passed it across the table. When Ithelus reached for it, he held up a hand.
"This bears a reproduction of the symbol that was found daubed on the body of the fourth victim yesterday evening. I want you to look at it as briefly as possible, before folding it away again and telling me if you have seen it before - particularly in connection to the mutants."

Re: [WFRP] The Hour After Midnight
Ithelus
SpoilerThere was a pregnant pause.
"Very well," said the Witch Hunter, making a note. "Thank you. You may go."
As Ithelus rose, the man pointed to a different door to the one through which he had entered. On the other side, there was another cramped stone chamber, much like the one they had first been ushered into - this one, however, was empty except for Ithelus.
There was nothing else to do but wait for the others.

Re: [WFRP] The Hour After Midnight
Illiiya Jaelrae
SpoilerIlliiya nodded shakily.
I only know a little. I w-wasn't there when they f-found him. She explained, We... saw three on the road here and... Ithelus and the men killed them. T-then we came into town... and some hounds made us pay them because we were elves. Then we... w-we met Mr. Marius... cause Raffy, I think... wanted to turn in the dead d-deamon beasts. And he asked us.... to h-help him, because he was afraid there were... bad things in the city.
She took a moment to collect herself, trying so hard to remain calm before she continued.
We went around and... talked to a lot of people. I... um... I d-don't remember them all, I'm sorry. I remember the doctor who fixed Lothar and Raffy... and I saw Lady... ah... M-maria at a meeting in town. It was all... people she knew. They talked a lot about helping the common people. I wasn't there when they killed the... um... the mutant. I just heard about it. Then I got invited to that party to thank us... even though I didn't really... do much. Then... then that was... Oh! Then, the hounds found some bodies... and I went with Ithelus while he looked at one... but I didn't. All I know is it was in an old wagon full of... junk. I think that was before the p-party. I'm sorry... I get confused s-sometimes.Anyone looking for awesome art, look no more! Check out my stuff here! I do comissions, for those interested. Re: [WFRP] The Hour After Midnight
Illiiya
Spoiler"Hm," murmured Jagrun, scribbling down a few things.
"The lady Maria. That would be Maria Samtzunge, yes?"
His eyes flicked up to Illiiya's face for confirmation.
"What is your opinion of her?" he asked, levelly. "You say they were talking about 'helping' the common people - did they express any hostility towards the construction of the cathedral? Did you hear any of the others' names?"
The quill hovered above the paper, waiting on Illiiya's words.Last edited by LCP; 2010-05-04 at 11:46 AM.

Re: [WFRP] The Hour After Midnight
Illiiya Jaelrae
SpoilerMy... um... opinion? She's pretty... and she seems very smart. Raffy... is very t-taken with her. She'll reply quietly, They mostly talked about... the hounds. T-they don't like the hounds. I met a few of her friends, but only for a very short time. The only one I remember was... a.. um... playwright. From up in K... Kesliev? Kessliv? I don't remember anyone's names. I'm sorry...
She looked hesitant for a moment before speaking again.
I... don't like Lady Maria. She admitted, Everyone is so taken with her... and... n-no one ever doubts her. I heard she hurt... Mr. Marius. A-and even he doesn't seem angry at her. Just... hurt. He's a very good man.Anyone looking for awesome art, look no more! Check out my stuff here! I do comissions, for those interested. Catch me at this site: http://www.furaffinity.net/user/rukis/

SpoilerI think she... broke his heart. H-he gets sad when he sees her, and they used to be friends. She told him, seeming glad to keep the conversation off of herself, Then she went away, and when she came back... Well... I don't think they even talk anymore. But... I don't k-know. Re: [WFRP] The Hour After Midnight
Illiiya
SpoilerJagrun listened attentively.
"Hm," he said, after a significant pause. "Interesting. It is not every woman who would turn down the baron's son."
Seeming to snap out of his contemplation of this new fact, he produced a small folded piece of paper from beneath a slim black book on his desk.
"There is one more question. On this parchment is a reproduction of the symbol that was found daubed onto the skin of the fourth murder victim yesterday evening. I need to know whether you recognise it - particularly in connection with the mutant Puderbrand."
He handed it over.
"Look at it only as briefly as possible, and then fold it back."

Illiiya Jaelrae
SpoilerIlliiya looked at the paper for only a moment before she returned it... very careful not to actually touch the man as she did.
I don't know it... She told him, But... if it was on a... um... a m-mutant... I'd say it must be bad.

Re: [WFRP] The Hour After Midnight
Illiiya
Spoiler"And you would be correct in saying so," said Jagrun, smiling without opening his mouth as he took back the piece of paper. The expression vanished as quickly as it had appeared.
"Thank you for your time, Miss Jaelrae. You may go." He indicated a different door than the one she had entered through - surely the answer to the question of where the others had gone. Before she could reach it, however, the Witch Hunter's voice rang out behind her again.
"Miss Jaelrae?"
She turned.
"If I were to ask you who... or what was behind these murders," said the Witch Hunter, not having risen from his desk, "what would you be inclined to say?"

Re: [WFRP] The Hour After Midnight
Illiiya Jaelrae
SpoilerHurriedly making her way for the door, finally feeling the fear of the meeting leaving her, Illiiya stopped dead when the witch hunter spoke once more. She turned slowly, looking back just enough to see him and shifted her weight nervously.
.... Daemons. She said, unable to think of anything to tell him other than what she suspected, M-mutants and... and c-cultists? They... all w-worship daemons, don't they? And... n-no one could have gotten inside to... um... to kill some of those people. Not through locked doors.
And unless he needed more, she beat a quick retreat, glad to be free of his presence and eagerly seeking out her friends.Anyone looking for awesome art, look no more! Check out my stuff here! I do comissions, for those interested. Catch me at this site: http://www.furaffinity.net/user/rukis/

Re: [WFRP] The Hour After Midnight
Illiiya
Spoiler“Mm,” assented Jagrun, his face betraying nothing of his own thoughts. “Quite so.” His tone of voice seemed to indicate he found Illiiya’s statement rather more interesting than she would otherwise have suspected.
The Templar nodded towards the door. “Goodbye, Miss Jaelrae. I am sure we will meet again soon.”
[hr]
Raffy, Lothar, Illiiya & Ithelus
SpoilerExiting the fearful room, Illiiya found herself in another claustrophobic stone chamber – the other three were waiting for her there, seemingly the only contents of the whole room.
(...After any conversation)
After a minute or so, another liveried servant appeared, leading them down a long stone passageway and back up a different flight of stairs. They found themselves being politely but swiftly guided out of the castle, stepping out of the gatehouse to a view of Delberz stretched beneath them – the weary sun had driven away the early-morning rain, breaking through the thin clouds in a few places to illuminate the sprawl of the town beneath them in a strongly slanting light. The long shadow of the cathedral tower stretched out like a sundial, slicing slivers of time as it crawled round over the rooftops of the houses below.
When they reached the bottom of the road that led up from the base of the castle mound, they made out a small figure scampering towards them – dodging between the awakening traffic of the city, the boy practically skidded to a halt at their feet. A street child of the kind they had seen all too often around the Neumarket and the Fields, he looked singularly out of place among the rich buildings that clustered at the base of the castle mound.
He looked up at them and triumphantly stretched out a hand holding a crumpled scrap of paper.
“You the mutant-hunters?” he said. “The man said you’d give me sixpence if I gave you this.” He paused. “I ran all the way here!” he added, holding out an open palm.
